sad byt true ~ the earth will cease to exist

as much as it seams everything is fine and dandy, there is already an estimated date that scientists are looking at, when the earth will cease to exist as we know it.

something about the moon slowly drifting out of orbit at a steady rate.

once it reaches a certain point, the climates will pull a complete 180 ... deserts will be flooded eventually freeze over, and glaciers and ice caps will melt. They predict it will flood every major city in the world.

i think it said that it was something like 40,000 years until this point?

i know its nothing we even need to remotely worry about, and most likely something else will take its toll be then.

but its scary to see that this is a scientific fact. the earth will cease to exist.

oh well.

Yes, either that or the earth will go through the natural progression of a star, turn into a red dwarf and expand out almost to jupiter, burning up the earth and everything else in it's path. There's ALWAYS something that's going to destroy the earth, dontcha know?

The sun will burn out eventually, but will be devoured by it long before that.

We'll eventually run out of food, water, and other resources to support the evergrowing population.

Astronomers believe there are 400 significant size near earth objects that haven't been found that could hit us at any time. One missed earth by only 75,000 miles a couple years ago that wasn't observed until it was right near us.

trust me, the earth will always exist. Whether or not it will be able to sustain human life as we know it may be in question, but the earth itself has gone thru all kinds of changes and always survived. The predominant lifeform at the time may not, but the earth has no problem.

Don't worry about her.

There are many theories as to how the Earth will end. Scientists don't consider that in the future the human race will have ways of dealing with them that are not feasible now. 40,000 years is a long time and by that time we might just be able to make the moon come back into orbit.

40,000 years? i'm sure we will colonize on other planets by then, and also will have enough power to push the moon to a stable orbit

I'm sure we won't be doing shit in 40,000 years, and who really gives a fuck what they do about it? I know I could care less what happens in 400 years, much less 40,000 years.

Forget 40,000 years.

How about any moment now, life on earth will cease to exist.

dont be so sure, i dunno how old you are but hopefully before i die, it is very likely that human lifespan will be possible to be extended. and that will leave even more time for the invention for genetic immortality.
might be a dream but science is advancing quite fast.

There's already a theoretical (But valid) method for moiving planets around, basically you swing a large enoug meteor around on an orbit that transfers momentum and your planet will speed up/slow down as needed to move closer or further from the sun, so given 40.000 years of tech advance, I'd say we can cut it

Sun expanding out to Jupiter's orbit? We'll just move to a cooler neighborhood. Like Pluto's orbit.

No, what's really going to wipe us out are Gamma ray explosions caused by supergiants collapsing into black holes. They figure the effect of one of those going off in your galaxy is like having a hiroshima bomb go off beside you (Even if you are half a galaxy away)

They think they are the answer to Fermi's paradox: If the galaxy is so big and has been around for so long, how come it isn't teeming with intelligent life?

Answer: KA-BOOOM. Whoops, there goes all life in the galaxy, even the 50.000 year old civilizations who thought they were such hot stuff.

Shouldnt it be mankind would cease to exsist if we havent left yet? If the moon drifts away ect, they earth will be here and be fine without us.

dude, please. You honestly think that in your lifetime the human lifespan will be extended to 400 years? Give me a break. To be honest, there is no way in hell I would want to lve that long.

I am probably doomed to living to be at least 100, and am not particularly excited about that prospect.
