I was hoping to get peoples suggestions regarding my goals on how to achieve a certain look for my photographs.
I am trying to get my pictures to look like this http://www.gap.com/asp/dept_index_al....asp?wdid=6030

In regards to these style photos how are they achieving this? Is this table set up the right way to go or is there an alternative method I could use. Also what type or color muslin do you think they are using?

IMO they are using a very large light box almost in-line or slightly to the side of the camera---the effect is easy to achieve with a couple umbrella lights (bounced strobe) on either side of the camera.

i don't think they are using a "background"---the images are photoshopped onto the page, so any contrasting background could be used.

to duplicate the look you will need either a large light box or bounced studio flash.

if you do not have the equipment you can simulate the look by using a very large window light or natural light and positioning your product so you can see the lighting effect, shooting at about 10am, or 3-4pm and white balancing as necessary.

Hi,

a good company for product shots is www.expressdigitalphoto.com . They charge about $15 per image I believe but do a great job.
