Back in 99/00 I ran SpinCities.com, a free web space provider. I didn't have any of this free host software and did all the accounts manually AND gave it away ad-free. I couldn't keep up as I was getting literally thousands of signups. The only money made was through little link share banners etc. on the main page. Wasn't enough to keep me going, so I said fuck it for now.
