TheGuyWhoKnows 08-22-2003 12:32 PM

The Final Cut...

one of their best...

traffictrader 08-22-2003 01:06 PM

I think roger waters is the best song writter of all times.

The Wall is my favorite album, but I'll admit my favorite song is from dark side of the moon.

Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find that ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And you run and run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

And racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or a half page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in a quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone the song is over, thought i'd something more to say

buzzard 08-22-2003 01:29 PM

My favorite band ever. Just about every song is a masterpiece.

Saw them live, oh the lazer lights and flying pigs....
Don't think written words can describe them, would have to be a song; a Pink Floyd song of course!

Evil Chris 08-22-2003 01:32 PM

Anyone from Toronto reading this?

Back in around 1984, I went to the McLaughlin Planetarium in Toronto and saw "Laser Floyd"...

An amazing laser light show in a planetarium, all done to the music of Pink Floyd. I wonder if they even still do this?

I seen something very similar about the same exact time except it was at the Hayden (sp?) planetarium in NYC

"And I am not frightend of dying,
anytime will do...
Why should I be afraid to die, theres no reason for it,
You gotta go sometime"

I've seen that before, I am not sure if it was in Toronto or if it was in Pittsburgh. They also did it to Pearl Jam...great show.

Favorite Waters Album .. Amused to Death

"We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We ohhed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah

And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death

No tears to cry no feelings left
This species has amused itself to death"

Favorite Floyd Ambum.. Momentary Lapse of Reason

"Was it love, or was it the idea of being in love?
Or was it the hand of fate, that seemed to fit just like a glove?
The moment slipped by and soon the seeds were sown
The year grew late and neither one wanted to remain alone

One slip, and down the hole we fall
It seems to take no time at all
A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for life
A small regret, you will never forget,
There'll be no sleep in here tonight "

Great Thread Chris!

Cyndalie 08-22-2003 02:07 PM

Can't you see? It all makes "Perfect Sense"

" When you add it all up
The tears and the marrowbone
There's an ounce of gold
And an ounce of pride in each ledger
And the Germans killed the Jews
And the Jews killed the Arabs
And the Arabs killed the hostages
And that is the news
And is it any wonder
That the monkey's confused
He said Mama Mama
The President's a fool
Why do I have to keep reading
These technical manuals
And the joint chiefs of staff
And the brokers on Wall Street said
Don't make us laugh
You're a smart kid
Time is linear
Memory is a stranger
History is for fools
Man is a tool in the hands
Of the great God Almighty
And they gave him command
Of a nuclear submarine
And sent him back in search of
The Garden of Eden "

Without A Dought.

Cyndalie 08-22-2003 02:28 PM

There is no Dark side of the moon really,
In fact, it's all dark

I was an extra in any brick on the wall - Got a load of us to charge down the beach -
My best mate who kicked it last year had a real good 5 seconds of mug shot in the film - Me? Fuck all!

RyanL 08-22-2003 02:59 PM

Who is Pink Floyd?

J/K

Dark Side Of The Moon was sweet!
The Wall along with the movie was good as well!

:thumbsup

I think david gilmour is a puke ... i heard somewhere (ok forgive me if i heard incorrect info) that he actually hired songwriters to make "the division bell" sound like pink floyd ... the early stuff with syd barrett was cool and freaky, but lets face it, roger waters is the shit ... final cut, animals, all damn good shit ... and if you wanna hear some really cool shit, listen to jeff beck go apeshit on amused to death ... i forget the name of the song, but he does an amazing melodic solo on this song, "christ its freezing inside, the veteran cried, the hyena ... the meadow and the fog rolled in bottle of gin .. whatever i dont know the name of the song :)

eric clapton on pros and cons of hitchhiking is nice too ...

and oh shit, i love in the movie the wall when whos his fuck ... god dammit. Geldof (bob?) .. hes screaming "youll just have to claw your way through this disguise!" ... i like that better than the original, and the extra tunes on the movie ... "kind old king george, wrote mother a note .... AND NO ONE SURVIVED FROM THE ROYAL FUSILIERS COMPANY C!"

god dammit time to grab the CDs

"WHEN THE TIGERS BROKE FREE" Excellent song!

It was just before dawn one miserable morning
in black forty-four
when the forward commander was told to sit tight
when asked that his men be withdrawn
And the generals gave thanks as the other ranks
held back the enemy tanks - for a while
And then the Anzio beachhead was held for the price
of a few hundred ordinary lives

The wall........but Im an old LSD Head

badmunchkin 08-22-2003 09:22 PM

From the Roger Waters album The Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking:

"So I stood by the roadside
The soles of my running shoes gripping the tarmac
Like gunmetal magnets
Fixed on the front of her Fassbinder face
Was the kind of a smile
That only a rather dull child could have drawn
While attempting a graveyard in the moonlight"

Those are some of my all-time fave lyrics, that mofo can write!

hudson 08-23-2003 02:21 AM

"Have A Cigar" (Waters)
Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar. You're gonna go far, fly high, You're never gonna die, You're gonna make it if you try; They're gonna love you. Well I've always had a deep respect, And I mean that most sincerely. The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. Oh by the way, which one's Pink? And did we tell you the name of the game, boy, We call it Riding the Gravy Train. We're just knocked out. We heard about the sell out. You gotta get an album out. You owe it to the people. We're so happy we can hardly count. Everybody else is just green, Have you seen the chart? It's a helluva start, It could be made into a monster If we all pull together as a team. And did we tell you the name of the game, boy, We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

well...I think the music makes the song ;-)

Pink Floyd Video :) - Enjoy!

heres a small video clip i threw together of that part, and "kind old king george ...

HEY! DOES ANYONE HAVE the video (the one that they released on mtv) "The Final Cut" ??? Is it available on any VHS or DVD?

slackologist 08-23-2003 07:42 AM

all floyd stuff is excellent, even "Bike" :-)

division bell kinda sucked imo, not to say that dave cant write a decent tune cause he can. ( he wrote wish you were here) but he just doesnt have as much personal material as waters ( his mum used to make him wear short shorts to school when all the other kids got to wear long pants :-) .. his dad died in a fucked up war defending some stupid bridge hopelessly, etc)

Roger waters solo stuff is brilliant, when the wild blows, radio chaos, pros and cons, amused to death, flickering flame, etc are all worth buying.
