Silly question for designers who run their own paysite - GoFuckYourself.com

Did you find it fucking difficult to design your own site (assuming you did). I definately have major difficulties.

When a customer orders a site, they have a basic concept in mind and when I adjust something, I don't have to like it.. as long as the customer does.

Now, I have to like my own.. I've been tweaking it like mad for over a week. I constantly change colors and fonts and whatnot...

Now, the design isn't any better than what I would do to a customer of course (I always give 100%

), but it's pretty fucking hard to please myself. I'm sure this will end up converting like shit and I end up redoing it after a few weeks

Hehehe.. I just thought I'd vent my frustration here for a bit.

hire another designer to do your site...that way you get a more objective point of view....If you don't like their design, you can always tweak it...

Or you could just have another designer review your work and let you know what needs to be changed

I want to do it myself, although I will need to give a peek to someone when it's done for suggestions.

I know what you mean TGF.

I can't explain the thought process but I find it takes me twice as long to do a project (of any kind) for myself than it does for others. I think it's mostly because when I use a block of my time for myself I am trying to stretch far beyond my norm. I use this time to improve and try new things I wouldn't have otherwise tried on a client project. When I am on the client's clock I usually don't have time to experiment. I get the experimentation out of the way on "my time."

True, same goes with me... When I design something for myself, I end up going through at least 4 or 5 revisions before I get to the result I like.

Often times I don't like the end result (because I'm such a perfectionist)-- But I stick to it anyways.

I was considering hiring batdelfuego to do my site, but I decided to do it myself. I had WebInc do my logo for the site though.

Props to them, fucking awesome logo.

I know what you mean "TeenGodFather" mine started off in pure flash and although it looked good it actually sold "fuck all" so my partner said we have to rebuild it in HTML ....

YIKES I thought not the design all over again, it took me yonks the first time...

As it happens on the second time I had a great idea with the wording and I felt better....

But yes to your post.... liken it to a motor mechanic that hates fixing his own car
