What would you do?

What would you do if you were told that you have cancer?

I'd continue living my life. Cancer isn't death. It's just another blockade in the road. Take the detour and keep on truckin'.

Would you stop working? Would you stop gong to classes (if you were a college student)? Would you just postpone everything? Would you be scared?

Stop working and do what? Stop classes and do what? Postpone everything until when? Be scared of what?

I'd try to determine the odds. If it's treatable then I wouldn't change my lifestyle. If doctors basically pinpointed a timeline that you have left to live, then my life would change dramatically. But first off I wouldn't panic. Do as much research on the cancer, figure out how bad living with the cancer would be and if its treatable and the odds. Then I would make an assessment of how to live it out. Like people said, this could be just a minor roadblock in the course of life.

Tough to say. Cancer doesn't mean the same thing it used to. Many types of cancers are treatable quite sucessfully. I'm sure I'd be scared and think "why me". However, unless the doctors said it was hopeless I don't think I'd change my life around. And if I did it would be to travel and spend time with my family not to 'suffer from cancer'.

I have been through that with family members. I guess it depends on what kind, and what stage it is in.

Hang in there, and good luck!

Because I got my biopsy results back today with the diagnosis of cancer. I don't find out how bad it is or anything until I talk to my doctor next Tuesday.

And I'm fuckin scared.

Well Tala, if it is breast cancer, I have 2 survivor stories for ya. My mother-in-law finished chemo in good spirits and is doing well. My mother was diagnosed early, had some radiation, and just got her 5 year clean bill of health report. I must say it was really scary when we first found out. But, the worst part about the whole ordeal was when her lymphnodes were removed to be checked. She couldn't use her left arm for about a week. She was able to work during radiation, and we were lucky....it was a cake walk! So, stay positive, and try not to freak out for now!

I hope it's treatable, Tala. Best thing to do is spend time with friends and family. Let them know how you feel and that you need someone to talk to.

Good luck, Tala

My best friend died of cancer.... My grandfather had it and so did my father.... I'll probably have it some day (according to genetic statistics)....

I'm sorry to hear that you have it, but I would tell you to continue with your normal life, and try to spend most of your free time surronded by friends and family so that you don't think too much about it.....

Thank you folks. It's cervical cancer, which at best can be treated swiftly with a hysterectomy. What we're worried about is the probability that it's spread to my bloodstream, and that's something else entirely.

I'll keep interested parties posted.

I would figure out about how much time I had left and take a few people with me.

I would go down in history as that guy.

Remember that guy that drove the semi loaded with a 10 ton fertilizer bomb into the young republicans convention?

That would be me.

Tala,

Keep your eyes on the sunny side of the street. Doctors make mistakes - get a second opinion if you can. Whatever comes, you will handle it .

Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on anything at this serious level. My grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and they put him on chemo and it turned out that wasn't really his ailment. The hospital was just gouging the family for all that expensive cancer treatment and the process of chemo ended up ruining his health and he died. Our family sued the hospital successfully but it shows you what goes on.

My sister was diagnosed with cancer, and two other doctors diagnosed her biospy results as fine with no cancer. She had a friend with the same thing a bad original diagnosis.

Anything in medical diagnosis should be double and even triple qualified before believing it. These labs get thousands of samples to test daily and things get mixed up all the time.
