Grenade launching camera

not sure if there's already a thread on this, but i had to post it...

sad.

Award-winning journalist Mazen Dana dies after U.S. troops mistake his camera for a grenade-launcher.

"Army soldiers engaged an individual they thought was aiming an RPG at them. It turned out to be a Reuters cameraman," navy captain Frank Thorp, a spokesman for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Reuters in Washington."

"His last pictures show a U.S. tank driving towards Dana outside the prison walls. Several shots ring out from the tank, and Dana's camera falls to the ground."

wtf do these reporters expect? I mean you have troops over there that are getting shot everyday... I could totally understand someone under the pressure they are under making this mistake...

I respect the fact that reporters need to be there but if they are unwilling to travel with the military , then they don't need to whine about it if they get shot... It's sad the guy got killed, but Iraq isn't the safest place to be at the moment, so they need to be willing to face the facts, just like the troops that are over there, risking there lives.

reporters risk their lives everyday to cover events such as the war in irak. i agree that if they want to travel by themselves, than that is an even bigger risk, but then again, if the soldier who shot him can't tell the difference between a camera and an RPG, than what the fuck is he doing in Irak.

i understand that the soldiers are under alot of stress, but then again, that's what they are trained for.

so i guess the only thing to do is implement a new course in soldier training called "Reconizing the differences between Cameras and RPGs"
