California Recall may be delayed

I just saw reported on a local newscast that a Federal Court has ordered the recall to be placed on hold. That same court is supposed to have another hearing on the matter 29 August.

In addition the same local newscast said that Arnold Schwarzenegger has added former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz and the actor Rob Lowe to his team.

Judge says recall election may be postponed

A federal judge threatened to postpone the Oct. 7 recall election on Friday as Arnold Schwarzenegger came under fire for comments an adviser made that California's property taxes are too low.

Poll Places Bustamante In Lead to Succeed Davis

Before the first television ads have aired, the race to succeed California Gov. Gray Davis (D) if he is recalled came down to just two men, Republican action star Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante, according to a nonpartisan statewide poll to be released Saturday.

The California Field Poll found 25 percent of registered voters opted for Bustamante followed by 22 percent for Schwarzenegger.

"Buffett suggested the landmark initiative has warped the state's tax system and may need reforms that include higher property taxes. He said he pays $14,401 in annual property taxes on his $500,000 home in Omaha, Neb., but only $2,264 on his $4 million Laguna Beach home. "

Sounds like Neb. taxes are close to New Yorks. uggghhh

Not surprised. Ah-nuld is going to have a harder time of this than the repubs think. Politics is a dirty business and Davis is particularly vicious when it comes to elections.

Can't wait 'till the shit slinging begins.

I don't think I will be voting, cause I think Davis would resign first to keep his Democratics in charge..

He would have had to resign before the recall was certified to fuck it up. If he steps down now, the election law says the recall must go on regardless.

This is bull shit, we have here in California a little thing call PROP. 13, any ass hole fuck with it in Sacramemto, History that's what they would be. Besides it would take more than 50% of the voters to change it. Ain't no way that will ever happen. NO fucking way.

You are talking about older polls from a few days ago. This is the latest poll. Look at the numbers. The far right of the Republican party is starting to split from Arnold because they think he is too liberal.

in California if you bought a home for 4 mil today you would pay more than 14K but if you own a home and have had it for years, say you bought it for 200K and now it's worth 4 mil they can't raise you taxes to the 4 mil level, unless you sell then the new owner will pay higher taxes. Prop. 13 and this passed Years ago, people were getting taxed out of there homes, older people had to sell couldn't pay the taxes, it was a dam mess. the god dam Demo's made it happen TAXED the shit out of old people. The Democrats have not tried to change Prop 13, but your hero Arnold says he might. Arnold's top financial advisor said today that Prop 13 needs to be changed. Arnold's campaign said that Californians need to pay more property taxes.

Do you support the party that wants more property taxes or the one who wants less?

Arnold wants more, Davis wants less.

Do you actually believe in less taxes or do you just vote for anyone who is a Republican?

Granted a lot of people are stupid Demo's in California but if you think they are going to put another one in as Gov. right now, God have mercey on our soles. I just can't see it happening they got this state so fucked up now, the state congress is even running scared, and they should be, replace the bastards. Republican and Demo's all of the ass clowns should go and am serious as a heart attact.

I also think this isn't just about Republican or Demo's any longer in this state, man this place is fucked up and it ain't going to get any better in the near future....PERIOD... Those cock suckers are setting over there in Sacramemto with heads up ass, wondering how they can get more money (TAXES) instead of trimming there dam staff, the 1st thing any of'em with a lick of grey matter would have done months ago.

Nope instead they scare the old people, well, we are going to cut the CHP, school moneys, close old folks homes, no more free food for old people, let MORE crazy loose shit like that.

So trimming a few hundred 35k a year staffers is going to help a 30 billion dollar budget crisis?

A novel economic theory, to put it nicely.

The State of California employs around 250,000 people. Firing every single one of them would knock less than 10 billion off the 35 billion deficit, for one year.

Now go ahead and school me, moron.

Prop 13 was a vote by referendum...can a vote by referendum be overturned by the State Legislature...or does it take a vote by referendum to overturn Prop 13 or any other Prop? Does anyone factually know the answer?

Proposition 13 required that all state tax rate
increases be approved by a two-thirds vote of the legislature
and that local tax rates also have to be approved by a vote of
the people. The people's right to vote on taxes is a key taxpayer
protection.

Well...it sounds as if Prop 13 will remain in tact...as it would be very difficult...I would think..to get two thirds of the legislature to agree on virtually anthing.
