I would cap the birds. Squirrels are far more entertaining.
(nice guns btw.)

Watched an extremely interesting documentary about squirrels stealing bird seed on TLC about 10 years ago...LOL I shit you not.

These little buggers will go through complicated processes to get to the seed.

They created complex obstacle courses that involved everything from climbing to pushing buttons etc, and these little buggers never failed.

So yep you're gonna have to shoot them.

steffie, I saw a show on TV about what you are going through. Showed all the Diff. stuff these people tried, I mean some fancy stuff and still couldn't keep the little guys out. Looks like you've got a real smart one... good luck.

Just put some odorless poison in the seeds and the problem will go away, yeah you might lose a few birds., but the problem will be solved

We have lots of food for squirrels, they eat mainly the stuff for the deer around here (I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains). We have some very unique birds here, we also have rattlers, bears and cougars LOL.. Makes for an entertaining day.

We have on average about 10 squirrels on the feeders during the day (we have 6 feeders) The humming bird feeder they leave alone geez.. but everything else they attach, and trust me they are very creative little boogers.

I am still trying to catch a blue and yellow humming-bird on my camera, its a pain but it will be so worth it when I do get it.
he he

btw,, squirrels are basically rats with bushy tails, they carry lots of deceases and have a habit of chewing on our electrical stuff, we have a well and a backup generator and I really don't need them to chew threw stuff or build nests in our attic urgh

Take a hot dog and fill it with chili peppers and leave it out there for the squirrels, once they eat it, they'll never come back again looking for food

Steffie - I have the same problem with squirrels. That spring action bird feeder will NOT help. Trust me - I watch them get into it every day.

Here's what you need!

Watch the video - it's a riot! (well, at least to boring chicks like me )

Also use safflower seed - they still eat it, but it takes them longer to empty the feeder. The racoons, bears and deer eat all my bird food also AND empty out the hummingbird feeder every single freaking night.

But like you, I LOVE living in the woods!

i'm from virginia. we used to hunt squirrels with 22's when i was a kid. you can hit them. the trick is to throw something on one side of the tree (like a hat) and aim at the other side.

good eatin!

After watching the video for this thing, I have to admit that not only would it keep the squirrels out of your bird seed, it would also provide endless hours of entertainment.
Because squirrels are just too damn stubborn to let a little thing like getting spun and flung distract them from their goal
