Looks to me like censorship... just like when on TV you hear " bleep"....

Because they dont want to do that business, which is perfectly within their rights.

They are a business, they reserve the right to do business with whomever they choose. America isn't a socialist state, we don't force businesses to do business with those they don't want to work with.

Instead of lamenting the loss of Visa, I'd spend my time looking for alternate billing methods.

Charly is quite right in the matter, if the consumer wants it, he'll figure out a way to pay for it.

Look at gaming sites. They cant get US credit cards through, and haven't been able to before there were laws in the US prohibiting it, but that doesn't mean that US consumers don't gamble on line now does it?

Be proactive.

What if Visa pulled the plug tomorrow? Do you think that porn would just disappear? Hell no, the smart guys would have new ways of taking in a buck within a few days.

Visa is a payment method, no more, no less.

Instead of sitting around crying about it, find a new way to take in payments if they won't process for you.

Does that mean epassporte will process for my beasty sites?

;-)))))))

You're just dying for a kick in the nuts in Van, aren't you ;)

ePassporte is a business just like any other, and does reserve the right to choose whose business it takes.

Personally I dont care about the furry sites, but I can't necessarily speak for everyone else in the joint.

I agree

It still sucks with their virtual monopoly on payment taking systems...

Yes but sucks doesn't equate to censorship or any of that nonsense. It's a business decision for them and one that I can understand, since I've seen the numbers on these types of sites, and in most cases they are so not pretty.

you know I normally charge extra for CBT ;-)))

hmmm, maybe if we get them really drunk in Vancouver, they will come around to my way of thinking? ;-)))

I agree

but I do find it odd that I can buy movies with my Visa card at amazon.com that are full of incest, underage sex, rape, explicit drug use, etc.

Kimmykim 08-14-2003 11:50 AM

Different venue, different type of transaction. You buy a book at Amazon, they dont charge you for a new copy every month.

At last some sense.

Did it occut to anyone that this industry is consumer driven?

There are other ways of getting money from someone who is begging to buy. How many other cards, are there that will do adult, sitting in the side linse just waiting for Visa/MC to say "No to all adult" I would start looking at these people and be thinking about buying shares in them.

Their are also dialers and MSM billing. Don't give in yet I will tell you when the sky is falling.

Exactly. It's all - and purely - about providing consumers with a way to pay for what they want when they can't use cash. Not rocket science. And certainly not reliant on Visa/MC for its future.

Having no plans does not mean they will not do it. Amex told us they had no plans either a few years ago until they dropped the axe. Everyone should take precautions.

Mitch

For me, I'd love to take precautions. But saving up money still doesn't solve the problem if they pull out since business will grind to a halt pretty fast without Visa. What we need are alternatives.

Sure, we still have Checking/ACH, but not everyone feels comfortable using that and lots of Americans like to use their CC since they don't have the money to spend in the first place.

Any suggestions?
