Do you trust Microsoft now?

So lets get this straight....

A computer worm renders millions of computers unusable....installs rogue programs on the end machine...and allows outside access to personal files.

This patch comes out, and everyone thinks everything will be all better.

Microsoft needs to be punished for this massive lost of work and huge security breach.

If you are using an unformatted machine you are crazy.

Look at the fishy things that have happened lately. Microsoft has completely shifted much of theire legal/licensing strategy.

Microsoft chosen as exclusive Homeland Security contractor

Homeland Security Department has chosen Microsoft Corp. as its preferred supplier of desktop computer and server software, according to a statement issued late Tuesday. The move is a significant development in the government?s ongoing merger of 22 agencies and comes as officials are selecting various technology companies? products as de facto standards for the department.

Gates To Outline Microsoft's Homeland Security Strategy
Company also appoints new chief privacy strategist.

Microsoft chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates will outline Microsoft's end-to-end homeland security strategy on Wednesday during a one-day conference, "IT Leadership in a Security-Focused World" in Washington, D.C.

Microsoft drops caps on its liability for products
Software maker will pay customers' legal bills if they get sued over IP issues
Microsoft is ready to take the heat if its products land customers in trouble.

The Redmond, Wash., software maker will pay its customers' full legal bills if they get sued over IP (intellectual property) issues relating to its products. Also, Microsoft no longer limits its liability when a customer suffers damages due to gross negligence or intentional misconduct on Microsoft's part, said Morris Kremen, associate general counsel at Microsoft, in an interview on Tuesday.

Microsoft changes licensing

IN the wake of a hostile response to last year's Licensing 6 fiasco, Microsoft will introduce changes which could significantly reduce costs for customers of its server software.

According to a Gartner research note, after changes due to come into effect on April 1, enterprises that partition will generally pay only for the processors used to support the software rather than for every processor on the server.

CONVENIENTLY A NEW PATCH INSTALLER IS ON ITS WAY.

Patch Management Help Is On the Way

Microsoft is preparing to launch next month the beta for Microsoft Installer 3.0. The new software-installation program is a key component of Microsoft's evolving strategy to simplify patch-management across its entire product line.

http://www.microsoft-watch.com/artic...1213375,00.asp

Microsoft is taking another step towards its goal of simplifying software-patch management across its product line.
Next month, the company will begin beta testing its Microsoft Installer 3.0 technology, according to beta information cited by various Windows enthusiast sites, including Steven Bink's Bink.nu.

The root of the problem is Microsoft. That's 100% true. However, if people would keep their systems up to date and run antivirus and firewall software we wouldn't have this problem either. I keep my shit patched and run Panda AV/Firewall and have NEVER had a virus or had any other problems.

We all know that computers and technology runs most of our western world.

Most of those computers use Microsoft products.

Microsoft is in charge of Homeland Security computers and technology.

Is this a problem that should be addressed?

I wonder if the Xbox microphone is left ON and OPEN at all times during gameplay...whether the user is on a Xbox LIVE enabled game or not.

this happens constantly, just usually doesn't get that much publicity or such a large outbreak.

remember that little exploit on windows servers that shut down half the 'net not that long ago?

I can honestly say that I don't love their products, since a bit over a year ago, I don't even use their products (except sometimes when friends computers are dead like yesterday when they got hit hard).

I will trust Microsoft the day that they are prepared to compensate every single user/company for any data or productivity loss caused by using their products... and they release their products to the general public under a true open source license.

don't worry I know I'll never trust them.

To those of you that are sick of Microsoft, I can highly recommend Linux, to start with download a copy of knoppix, it's an operating system that you can run directly from the cd, once you're happy that it runs ok on your machine then either download or buy a copy of redhat, mandrake, suse or any of the other distributions.

It's true. But nobody cares.

People aren't concerned with __[fill in the blank]___ until it directly affects them, and they then stop being concerned again once its stops affecting them.

This patch has been available for about 2 months now.

Way to keep your computers up to date!

Use the auto-update feature, please.

Auto-update, remote administration and other wonderous things are enabled by default on most peoples systems.

Microsoft likes it that way.

So, taking that into consideration - how did this get so out of hand if a working patch was available two months ago?

Well everyone who installed the update from the auto-updates about 2 months ago wasn't effected. So thats how you explain it.

So it got out of hand by people not using the auto-update feature, and not paying attention to the available updates for windows.
