I'll have to disagree with that. Seeing how their leaders get wiped out as if they were flies probably taxes their faith quite a bit. If Allah is with them, then why aren't they winning, or even putting up good resistance?
If you combine that with what their lives must look like, being separated from their fundamentalist leaders (and their inspirational speeches and such) and from an environment where fundamentalism is accepted if not dominant, many of them probably have a hard time keeping the faith.

They may be religious fanatics...and trained in the art of terrorist tactics...but ultimately they are humans...and must suffer with the same basic frailties of mindset that most humans suffer with...so I do not think time is in their favor to maintain a high level of "dedication"...without the constant "inspiration" as defined by you.

These 'religious fanatics' have had dedicated hatred of the Western world since the crusades. Somehow I don't think they are giving up now.

Gererally speaking...you may be correct...but if you are a member of an autonomous cell...placed in a foreign land...and have little if any contact with others in your org...learning that your upper echelon is being taken down...missing family and home...having to scratch out a living...etc. it is only normal that the edge of your dedication is going to lose some of its sharpness as the years roll by...and probably many of the members of these cells have either returned home...or have made new lives for themselves.

for anyone who thinks that planning, financing and training are the greatest limiting factors, i would suggest that you are quite wrong.

how much training, financing and planning does it take to walk down Anystreet USA and toss a hand grenade at something like this and watch 100,000 + gallons of burning gasoline meander through main street?...

Not really. Extensive research has led me to believe that many of them are and were completely out of touch with reality. Many philosophers tend to forget that if their basic premises are purely speculative, their conclusions are as well.

Many have interesting ideas, but fail to supply good arguments for those ideas.
