If you're making $250k a year, you should try to invest 50k a year into stocks, 401k and IRA's cuz you may not be making that kind of money forever and a few years of adding 50k will really help come 65 and you can easily live off the remainder. This doesn't include buying a home and other investments, such as business investments, I'm speaking strictly of retirement savings. If you can put away 250k in five years and it hopefully it doubles every 10 years, you're gonna have 4 million to retire on in 40 years from just 5 years of savings.

I have a house, I payed cash, the property tax, is

300$ a month,
100$ for internet
100$ for phones,
100$ for satelite,
100$ for the landscaper, 4 cuts a month,
50$ for the cleaning lady, 2 visits a month,
100$ for the trainer, 4 visits a month,
150$ for hydro,
40$ for the alarm,
50$ for cell phone,
2000$ a month for food, and eating out,
1000$ a month, for movies and drinks,
200$ a month for amazon.ca orders,

grand total,

4300$ cdn a month, which is 40K a year, which is my salary,
and many of those things are payed by the company anyways,

oh and I max out the RRSP's, 8000$ a year,

I mean i am very happy living at this level,

I dont own a car, and I have shit loads of money in the bank,
which give me piece of mind, because when the internet goes to shit, I can simply, open up another business, hopefully,

or I can just live 10 years at my current level until I run out of money,

note, a car, mariage or children, could completly fuck up my confort, costs zones, but hey, Ill deal with that when it comes around

I don't think I would know how to spend $2k monthly on food. I barely spend $200.

When I lived in LA you pretty much can go through $20K-$30k a month no problem and that's not living big at all out there.

Once you get over $100K a month in income you can usually live extremely well if you aren't in an expensive city like NYC or LA, and bank a 35% or more of that every month.

Its all relevant to the lifestyle you enjoy. Money loses its meaning once your basics are all paid for.

I know people that have 6 fig a month overheads and though they make oodles of money they always seem stressed from spending so much of it. These folks knock out a couple mil a year but go through it like water.

Well I was banking up most of my money until I got my new vehicle. Now I pay that each month, insurance, and my student loans. The rest pretty much goes in the bank. Once I get a decent figure in there, I will make a big payment towards the vehicle. Once it is payed off, time to really start saving for a house

2000$ a month is easy,

I take my parents out at least once a month diner for 5 400$, and me and the woman go out twice a week, 100$ a pop,

its easy, and I stock the hosue with all the good eats,

I lived in Tarzana for about ten years and no way did I spend anywhere close to $20-$30K per month on personal expenses...and would never do so. I have never had a desire for the material...but then again I suppose I learned to be frugal from my years in the Army.

I spend as little as possible. Other than the weekly or bi-weekly wine splurges and good office furniture I don't lead anywhere near as extravagant a lifestyle as most people in my income bracket.
