Alexa.com how does the rating work? - GoFuckYourself.com

About 6 months ago, someone told me about alexa.com which rates websites with a number...the lower the number the better your rating. For a lark I signed up and checked out other content sites.

I've read their faq about links, traffic, ect, but still can't figure out why our site is dropping so fast.

6 months ago we were a typical content site at about 100,000 rating. I don't do links, no ads out there, have no surfer traffic, only about 3,000-4,000 unique webmaster hits a day, but we keep dropping.

We drop 500-1000 points a day and are now down to 35,000 now, which is better than quite a few established paysites. Today I didn't even post a message anywhere, and we dropped 500 points.

What the hell am I missing on how they rate? We , don't have much traffic, don't get it.

Check out alexa.com, they'll have more information on the rankings than GFY will.

They get the counts from the people that download the toolbars.

Its a sweet guide, but nothing sacred. I've scored from 19,000 to 191,000 on adjacent days with the same traffic, so I suspect besides all the usual explanations they have some bugs and dropped data some days.

deals and links that go all over the planet, but sure can't find out how they work their ratings.

Alexa counts both uniques and pages views. I have gauged several of my sites and I have found their program quite good.

Alexa is good for just a general idea and not even very good at that. It pretty much sucks. Alexa ranks you based on the surfing of people that have the Alexa toolbar installed on their computer. Companies have been known to fuck up the rankings by having their employees all install the browswers and visit their own site often.
