I also most of the time disagree with "theKing" and " Eroswebmaster". On this thread, I have to agree with them. When you see something like this, you start to wonder how this administration can face the population:

The soldiers have NO saying and no choices. That the war is justified or not should not be part of this equation. They do what they are told to do, and in very harsch conditions. They are separated from their families, some will never witness the first steps of their child or hear their first words.

This is a very big price to pay, and they should be compensated with more than words and medals.


Meanwhile, Bush is vacationing and rising millions for his re-election, distributing " favors" to his friends ...

In addition I want to once again state...and stress...that life in the military is not pleasant (particularly for those in Combat Arms units) and is relatively dangerous (there is a significant loss of life every year from training exercises)...even during peace time...and many are away from their home base more than they are at their home base...which means away from their families. Since the million man reduction in forces the burden...even during peace time...has become greater.

Every single Green Beret over there, for instance, loves the hell out of the fact that most human beings are in awe of the conditions he is thriving in. Oppressive heat, fleas, constant guerilla attacks.

Let me assure you that the people who are whining are the pussies, and there aren't enough of them to do jack or shit about a political movement. They don't see any action anyway -- that's why they have time to be writing emails. They are pogues: remf motherfuckers who joined for college money. They're gonna go home and tell war stories about how heroic they were typing away on their keyboards, making America safe from terrorism in their air-conditioned tents -- sometimes they even have to pull Guard Duty!!!

Nah, the way it's gonna go down is that the people who were hard-wired to be warriors are gonna do their job, and love every second of it, in the worst possible conditions, and they are going to come home, eventually, and grin everytime they walk into a room, because they will know that they are gods walking among children.

What many cilivians that have never served do not understand is the 10-1 tail ratio...10 "REMF's" to support 1 man in an actual combat role...but even at that the "REMF's" in Iraq are in harms way. The warriors/pros like doing their jobs...and living with hardship is a part of that job.

I was there in 90-91. It hit 132 degrees several days in October of 90. We were in Kevlar helmets, flak jackets, full BDUs. with Rucksacks and weapons.

Hot? Yeah. So fucking what. We got to kill evil people. No.

We got PAID to kill evil people.

When you get back home, there's plenty of time to get head from hottie sluts. But killing evil people -- that's done overseas in miserable conditions.

At the end of WW2 the war was mainly about who is going to get what. Many of those guys were fighting there a long ass time and just wanted to come home.

Those that make it a career find the job to be its own reward...but there would be a higher retention rate if the job paid more. No career trooper is in it for the money but certainly would appreciate being paid a resonable salary. An E-1 should be paid at least as much as the Union Trades pay...and the pay is shy of that by roughly $25,000 per year.
