No, I think you're the one without the clue.
yeah --it's only 30 seconds. and it's one more username/password to remember. one more place who has some e-mail address of mine. is it going to be passed off to some associate? sold off to some list ? once i get this U/P combo --is this going to be anything i'm interested in ? or is the content going to be nothing i'm really interested in or look like crap ? or am i going to have to wade through page after ( slow loading ) page looking for something ? comes down to: why bother with that thirty seconds. unless i know they have something i'm interested in, or have some kind of word-of-mouth or something --i probably won't bother.

one thing i noticed Centerfoldbabes doing on their site is using some of the "big" AVS system logins for entrance. most adult webmaster have one of those and it might help keep some of the riff-raff surfer traffic out ...

Lane 08-08-2003 12:04 AM

I also have to admit that i ignored a lot of content providers just because they require a login.

Do whatever you want, we don't care, but accept the fact that you are losing customers, there is no point of arguing about it. It's up to you to listen to the guy and make proper changes or not. Just my 2 shingles.

Dravyk 08-08-2003 02:35 AM

Yo Berg! How goes it?

The so-called "lazy" factor is what I'm laughing over. That said, yeah, I do agree the spam factor can be a deterrant, and yeah, I too have signed up to a few content sites only to find a) shitty content and b) then spammed twice a day. So, valid points. And yeah, something like an AVS login is probably the best solution; protects from surfers (it's a webmaster login) and still pretects webmasters from unwanted and undesired spam.

quiet 08-08-2003 02:41 AM

yup, the registration thing is a serious pain in the ass. especially when you are looking for something specific, and you have a shitload of providers to look through.

Dirty F 08-08-2003 02:44 AM

Unless the content is REALLY what im looking i normally dont bother to sign up.

Over the last 2 years i spent 1000's on content and those guys simply missed out. And thats just me, im sure alot people think the same way. So were talking quite big numbers.

What is it content providers are afraid off? Burning 0.2 gigs bw a day on 15 surfers that accidentally found your site?

What do you propose video and live feed providers do? Allow totaly free access? They people would not have to buy into a porn site at all. They could just freely use the content on a content site......

You have to have some protection......

The description of my site is always relevant. And everybody CAN see small faces and short descs of all sets and use navigation of my shop without any registration. Registration is needed only when visitor want to see all thumbs of the set and big samples. I block visitors from Russia by default, though.

And I wonder - how do you buy the content without providing your e-mail??? You need to enter it into payment form anyway. And it's visible to a seller.

BTW - I do not spam my customers, I only send notifications about updates when they are made. And everyone who desire to exit is deleted from the list. I never sell those addresses to anyone.

But I discovered once, that one of the billing I used has a leak of e-mail addresses. I'm not sure were they selling the addresses or someone cracked them, but I got complains about spam from customers whose addresses I definitelly did not disclose to anyone.

berg.the.red 11-14-2003 02:28 PM

hummm ... so i'm cruising content sites today lookin' to use up some ARS reward points, and i notice content sites lookin' for username/pass and/or registering. and then i think --matrix ... acacia ... grenade(!) ...

Sigurd 11-15-2003 02:44 PM

Hey, people, what are you talking about? I see the owners of paysites, who tell, that they don't want to register, don't want to fill this little form. Hey, may be you'll open your paysites for everyone? You have your own customers list, it's your profit, we make our customers list and these customers are YOU! And we need it, because it's our profit! And I want to know people, with whom I work. And of course if you need to pay by CC I need a lots of information about customers, because, I'm sure you know all this cheaters, who like to make chargebacks! And I think most of content providers don't need customers, who can buy something once and never look at the store later, we like really customers, who buy usually our content... As you like, when people make rebills on your paysites!

I don't mind registering for a content provider if they provide online licensing so that I don't have to fill out and send in a license. I barely have enough time to eat some days, the last thing I need is to skip eating to make a trip across town to fax something. And heaven forbid I forget to send in a license and the content that I've already paid for is suddenly invalid? I need to hire an assistant just to take care of stuff like this :(

I DO mind registering for content providers that don't have sample thumbs outside so that I can see what they have before I sign up. I'll register to see full sized and uncensored samples, especially for the convenience of online licensing, but I hate to register for a site looking for teen content, for example, only to find that they don't have a single model under 25. Very frustrating :(

Well, I am not sure how a lot of other sites work, but with my site, you provide an email and password of your own, click one little box, and every time you visit the site, it remembers your login and you get right in automatically. Hey, and if you don't like what you see, you can always click a single box to "unregister"..... Regarding spam, we only send out one message a month or so about any sales.

As for searching for niches, Our content is organized in over 50 different niches, so you can click on just the kinds of content you want. On my site you can see a thumbnail of every image you purchase, and you can pic the images you want as well.

I would think content customers (webmasters) wouldn't want every tom, dick, and harry surfer cruising around in content sales sites getting for free what a webmaster wants to charge members or other customers a fee to see in the first place.

I know content is just a part of what a successful webmaster needs to make money, but like any part of a business, it's important enough to get the best quality and value you can out of your dollars, right?

Isn't that worth spending a little time and effort on?

Tom

:thumbsup
