Anyone ever have this system problem occur??

Trying to put together a little system from pieces & parts that have been scattered about.. which I do on ocassion..

This time it's wantin to be stubborn..

The bios boot sequence = a, c, cdrom

    It does the floppy handshake

    checks the memory

Identifies the hd and cd drives

then it'll empty the screen and show:

    Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM:

The hd boots fine on another system, as does the floppy..

    Any thoughts??

Someone told me to boot to dos or anything and then type 'fdisk /mbr'. It fixed it but I have no idea what that 'fdisk /mbr' does, so it might also do things you won't like, but you could give it a try.

How old are the bits? Check the BIOS to make sure you have normal/large/LBA mode set correctly for your HD...

fdisk /mbr just fixes the master boot record..

But I can't boot to anything because, even though it checks the floppy and hd during boot, it apparently won't read either one..

It just pops the atapi cdrom stuff up..

Bios is currently set to auto, and it picks up on the hd fine.. I've also tried identifying the drive manually in bios.. it picked it up that way as well.

But even if I had no hd at all, and had a dos boot disk in the floppy, it should boot to dos..

For some reason, once it gets past the indentifications and handshakes, it wants to look to the cd rom to boot from..

How can a, c, cdrom be fucked up?

Also tried 'c only' .. does the same thing..
