On violence.. yea.. far more than I suspect the average "citizen" thinks from a load of govt stats. I have a friend (called "X") in the US who swears by a gun (or two!) - it is just "necessary" since you have to assume the "other guy" has one. X is involved in "law" in the US and it is now expected when we speak on the phone that guns were drawn at least once a week - this can range from stupid kids holding up stores to X's car being sprayed by automatic fire. It is rare for press reports, but sometimes, there are other reasons why reporting is not "desireable" at that time. In 19 years, three of X's partners have been "downed" - it may be for selfish reasons, by I'd like to see X well out of that world, but it is a world X thinks is "normal"!! Stupid Hollywood movies ain't a patch on this :1orglaugh The US is one violent society! |

Maru, if I moved to Japan, I'd expect to have to learn the language if nothing more than to ask for a bathroom. lol The younher generations of people form other countries expect us to know their languages because they are either too lazy or whatever reason to learn it.
If I moved to Canada, how could I speak to CD without knowing Canuklehead?!?!? The thing is, the World is not and will not be a perfevt place in any of our lifetimes. Until the "Confederation" takes place and people start taking care of things more than they even attempt to now, this is how it will be. The whole WORLD is that way. |
Sweeden has a population of roughly nine million people; The city of Phoenix has almost as many people here. More children die in Phoenix every day from drownings in pools, but yet I don't see a movement to outlaw pools.
The reason why Sweeden has no shootings is rather simple. Sweeden is the size of California yet has only 1/1000th of a population; You fuckers can't find each other to take shots at each other. |

I want to have a gun but the law doesn't allow me... I'll have to become a cop to have a gun.... and believe me, those cops are definitely NOT the ones you want to have a gun!
these people just shoot everyone in sight! I'll be more responsible myself then them trust me! If you seriously believe that "your" cops ain't shooting innocent people you probably also believe the news on the local state owned channel... |

Why should nuclear bombs be illegal, then? Less people die of nuclear explosions than in pools. Why should heroin be illegal? Why should terrorism be illegal? Less people die of terrorism than heart disease. Why should anything be illegal if you're basing it strictly on the number of deaths? The point is that guns are made to kill people. That's why some people think they should be illegal. Comparing them to swimming pools isn't a good argument. |

I heard someone in French TV calling English "the miraculous language": It has the simplest grammar of all the big languages AND the biggest vocabulary. That's perfect for a language that other people also want to use.

soemthing nobody has pointed out yet, but generally makes for some good controversy.
in most states that have allowed concealed carry (or worse yet.. i believe essentially unregulated concealed carry), crime rate has actually gone DOWN. they were thinking about legalizing it here, but i guess it got shot down. it's funny though, i remember seeing editorial cartoons and stuff on the matter, basically depicting everyone shooting everyone. it's just not the case, and your basic run-of-the mill propoganda. especially in a part of the country like this. people are a lot less likely to pull a gun to rob a convenience store with 5 people in it, when those 5 people might be packing heat. and legitimate, legally licensed concealed carry operators don't go through that process so they can go shoot up a local shopping mall. it's kinda like the speed limit laws. every time the speed increases, everyone bitches that 10 billion more people will die a year. it's not the case, even in states that have abolished speed limits. hell, some of you easterners might be shocked to know they let us drive 75 on the interstate. i could be wrong on this, it's been a while since i looked up the laws. but last i knew, it was perfectly legal in this area to carry around a loaded firearm.... as long as it's in plain view. you can't take it into banks, schools or gov't buildings of course, but you could walk down the street with a .45 on your belt and there's nothing anyone could do. you'd probably catch a lot of funny looks and some harassment by the police, but it's legal. |

I can understand why Americans need weapons. The police shoots first and ask questions later. (so its better to be the one who shoots first). They can't trust their own government so that they have to protect themself. Most crimals have a weapon so that everyone needs one to protect themself. But thats all cool with me. I don't care if they need a weapon or not. Their is only one thing I really hate about Americans. (most of them) They think that their country is the best one. They only know Mexico and Canada and were never in Europe (except maybe in Paris or England). But thats what they learn as children. Everywhere they go someone tells them how good their life is. For example Bush says in every speech that they have a good life. In school everyday they have to stand up and sing a little song to their flag. They never have a chance to think on their own... |

The BS that you regurgitate daily...is amazing. I am 45 years old...and I have had the freedom to do exactly as I have chosen to do for the past 45 years. There is not anything major that I wanted to do that I couldn't do and there is not anything major that I cannot do that I want to do...and that my is my idea of freedom. City and County ordinances are sometimes an irritant but nothing that I cannot live with. |

And your wrong about Americans. Americans don't think our country is better than any other country; We just don't understand the concept that other countries exist. I can drive for four days straight and still be in the US; I can drive for four hours in Europe and visit six different countries. At the same time, name one other country that has the size, population, wealth, knowledge, armed forces, and economic might the US has. I've been all over the world - I've lived in Canada (not proud), been to Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, Japan, and all over Europe. Mexico scares the living fuck out of me. Every country has it's pros and cons, but don't tell me Sweden or France (or whatever) is better than the US. |

Of course, in the past two centuries what people call "freedom" has spread over much of the globe. While in 1790 there were less representative governments than one could count on one hand, today there are five dozen or more. "Freedom", what one may term consensual government has spread so fast and furious that it makes little sense for Americans to speak of American freedom anymore. Though in the sense that it has a long unbroken tradition of such, it may still be said - though it will not by me. I believe that the US and Switzerland are the only countries with an unbroken two hundred year long tradition of democracy. Interestingly, the Swiss constitution was influenced by the US constitution. Today the freedom that is enjoyed by Americans, Canadians, the Swiss, the Spanish, Austrians, Austalians, Jamaicans and Japanese is relatively similar. Fallacy? No one is free. "Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains". Laws that are meant to protect one group of people actually diminish the freedom of others. A great conundrum. However lawlessness is worst most of us would agree. |
America needs guns cus their too pussy to settle shit with knives or their fists.. thats how the ancient combat happened, thats not what today is about.. today its about "I'll shoot you as I'm doing 55 past your block, Then your boys can come shoot up my house and kill my baby sister, and maybe my mother" type shit... What ever happened to the good ol days of knives and fists...

guns don't kill people ..... people kill people....... I carry a gun ... I also havea CCW... in 22 states.... so pretty much I always carry... everywhere..... but if I wanted to..... I could kill you by bludgening you with a big fucking rock... might be a little messier but gets the job done.... so to say why do we have guns... thast the most insane statement I have heard.....

Someone living in Budapest has more than 20 countries within 1000 miles of them. Since not all Austrians know Hungarian, it becomes rather necessary to learn other languages if one wishes to travel even that short distance. The distance between the capitals of those countries is less than a few hundred miles. The US is vast and relatively isolated. |
I'll go hunting with a shot gun... But a handgun is not for me.. I have to much of a temper, I will shoot someone if I carry a gun around with me..
I can dig people having guns for sporting shit, but not as "Protection" while they drive around n shit.. In your home is different.. But in a car, anything can happen.. And as they say with Murphys law, Things that can go wrong will go wrong!.... So lets say you got your Para Ordinance in your trunk, you go into the movie theater, some fuckstick steals your ride, Your car is gone, and your gun is gone, now someone is prolly gonna robb a store with that gun and kill people, and your gonna have to deal with the questions of where did the gun go, are you sure, are you lying type shit... I just chill.. I use a knife, a ball point pen, or my fists if I gotta solve a problem... Media |
Americans have guns because:
1. 1776 might need to happen again one day. 300 Million guns constantly remind the powers that be in Washington DC that the real military power in the US is with the citizens themselves ultimately. Just in case they ever truly forget who they work for. 2. The average police response time in most metropolitan cities is about 8 minutes. So if you have a serious problem going down with a bad guy, you're on your own in reality. You need to be prepared for anything, because eventually anything will happen one day. I keep 7 different defense / protection systems around me and ready to go at home and 4 systems ready when I'm mobile. And I am always in alert mode. |
when people have guns they will shoot each other....10 years ago there were no guns here & no shootings, now the things have changed....more guns, more shootings, more dead people :thumbsup
|
Norway is one of the countries in the world with most guns per citizen. Practically everyone has a gun, either a shotgun, a hunting rifle, or an MP-5 or a H&K G3 from the army/national guard, yet there are very few shootings/murders.
I think the problem in the US is that you have so many poor / stupid people with easy access to guns. |

I'm not speaking for guns but honestly I feel really naked when travelling over borders and can't carry my lovely gun. |
We gotta have guns. The fuckin' insurance companies
are making us give up our Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Pitts and Dobies (as well as the Labradors, Irish Setters, Dalmatians and Blue Heelers). Ergo sum, if we didn't have guns we wouldn't have protection against those who have guns ... or the Swedes, etc. Besides, hugs and kisses never overcame an invading army; they just produced a rash of children. :BangBang: |

If you consider you have freedoms and privacy - fine! That's what the deadening effect of CNN does after some years. The US has less freedoms and privacy than *any* country in the western world. I assume you are aware, almost everything you do is recorded somewhere. This ranges from the mail delivered via USPC, which is more than just the "mailman" to your lack of freedom to travel and live elsewhere in the world without accounting for your "status" to the IRS - Despite you may never earn one dime in the US and live in another country, they still want that tax filing and some dollars. The US has more laws and incarcerations than *any* "civilized" nation - that's freedom! The list is too long for GFY unless they are some gigs spare. I have no doubts I am grateful I was never born a "citizen" of the US - it is a liability personally and globally. I hear ya about "my idea of freedom" - maybe others have more than this and value it - It all depends on which rut your are in.:) |
