UK Webmasters + VAT
Hi , ok when we went to our accountant last time (about a year ago) we was told nbot to register for VAT as we did not need to as majority of business is not done in the UK. We even got confirmation of this from the VAT office.
Now we have a package arriving in the UK with value of about $20,000 USA dollars but we can not get it because the shipment company want a VAT number and obviously we do not have one. Any ideas on this?

VAT isn't compulsary unless your turnover is above the threshold... keep bitching at whoever is sending it to sort it out or goto the shipment's company's head office and complain. You should just be able to write N/A in the VAT field.

VAT - Value Added Tax
I think the threshold is £56k so not every UK business will have one. An explaining phone call along with a letter from a chartered accountant should be enough. Darren, I'm looking for a new accountant who's okay with the business we're in, could you let me know the details of your guy? (or perhaps any other UK webmasters who are able to recommend someone.) john [at] centrefolds.co.uk or ICQ 308714554 Thanks

Might it be because you are importing something into the UK?
