Once every couple of months. I don't see any reason to change it unless you have made a easy to recognize password or you let other people use it.

The root password on my servers is very cryptic and you need to login as a regular user first. On top of that I restrict logins to originate from my home and my office only so that pretty much limits the number of people that can try to break into my servers so I don't change the root password often. Userlogins are changed about once per month.

All my passwords are: password. Without the period. Really makes everything much easier.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

I do the same. I don't think there is a reason to change the root password that often as long as you do what WiredGuy does. Changing the password every week or month, doesn't make the server anymore secure. A person trying to hack in will more then likely have the same chance of getting your new password just as much as the old one.
