![]() Well, it's been 5 years since I've been down to Detroit, and I'm planning on going down there in the next few days to visit an aging aunt and visit some other relatives on the way down.
Anyways, now that I have 3 children (11, 5, 1.5), I'm gonna need to find more family things to do down there. First off is malls. In the past, I went to the "Fairlane Town Center", "Oakland Mall", and "Southgate Mall". Are there any new bigger malls that are worth seeing ? We've gotta do our shopping ![]() I'm thinking about heading into Windsor Canada for part of the day, that's usually a neat thing to do. I don't know how the security is nowadays though. As far as other things to do with the kids, I know of the "Detroit Zoo", so we'll go there. There's "Greenfield Village", but I haven't been in there since I was a kid and don't know if that's worth-while. My brother recommended heading down to Ohio for the day to hit up Sea World and Cedar Point, that might be a plan perhaps. Is there anything else that I'm missing ??? |

Hey...
Here are some ideas for you. As far as the malls. There is Twelve Oaks in Novi and the Sommer Set Collection in Troy! The Sommer Set Collection is very high end and is just a more expensive version of Twelve Oaks. Lots of great places to eat in and around both. Fairlane is no longer a place where the fam can hang out in my opinion. Greenfield Village is always a great place. They now have an I-Max theater so if your kids like movies its a mush. The Zoo has also come a long way in the last couple years and more then worth seeing. Security at the boarder to Canada is not to bad at all, but just make sure you have two forms of vaild ID. It's a pretty fast trip over. There are a couple smaller, local water parks in the area. Nothing huge, but fun for the kids never the less. Hope this helps a bit.

Well there is that new mall in Auburn Hills (Great Lakes Crossing) that is supposed to be just Gigantic.
There is also one of those outlet malls on 96 heading west towards lansing. Its about 30 minutes outside of Novi and it has all the outlet stores for Nike, etc etc. I think Greenfield Village / Henry Ford Museum is always a good thing to check out. If you are a sports nut (outdoors etc) go to Cabelas down in Dundee (south of Monroe). You could jump on the people mover and get mugged, or visit the casinos, but the kids may not have much fun. I don't think there is much to do that is fun for kids downtown, most of it is around the suburbs. In Novi there is a skate park and stuff if your kids are into skating, in Sterling Heights there is a Dave & Busters at 20 mile and Dequindre that is just a huge place with video games. There is a lot to do, its just that none of it is close together. Andy

It should be pretty easy to get around in Detroit on the weekends because 80% of the population seems to be up here camping next to the damn boat ramps! (Traverse City area)
Just kidding of course....... Greenfeild Village was actually very cool for our family. We had a great time there.

I grew up in Michigan. Granted I haven't been there in about 9 years, there used to be a "people mover" you could take around Detroit (like the monorails at Disney) and we used to stop off at Greektown and the museums. Windsor is awesome!

On Auburn Road between Ryan and Dequindre is Four Bears Water park... not huge.. but reasonable, with water slide, wave pool, ect... VERY near Dave and Buster's is LakeSIde Mall... a good sized shopping mall, that is still 'kid safe'... Great Lakes Crossing ( I-75 and Joslyn Rd - just north of Pontiac ) is HUGE.. has a GameWorks, BassProShop and TONS of other stores.. VERY kid safe.... Of course all of these are in the northern subs of Detroit.... ![]() |

definitely go to a tigers game, the seats are cheap as hell and even though they may suck, the stadium is nice. theres some good places to eat in greektown after the game.
the best mall to go to is definitely great lakes crossing off 75 in auburn hills. you could go to the hands on museum if thats still open, i cant remember.
