A file that won't delete and freezes explorer when selected

I have a 700MB movie on my PC that I am trying to delete. If I try to delete in Explorer, it would say the file is in use and then explorer will freeze.

If I try deleting via the command prompt, I'd get the same error messege and explorer will also freeze.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this file?

BTW, as I said in the topic, even if I just HIGHLIGHT the file, explorer will freeze.

Did you try rebooting and then deleting from the prompt?

I've had the same problem

Use a bootdisk to start your computer in DOS and delete the file from there. It'll work

you might also try temporarily changing the file association on that file type.

Say it is a .wmv file. Change the association from being associated with Windows Media Player, to a Word Document. Delete the file, then go back and change the file association back to what it is supposed to be.

What kind of file type is it anyway? and what folder is it in? This sounds like a problem I heard about last week.

Not true

Use a Win98 bootdisk, disable HD booting from BIOS if you need to.

Just load DOS and delete. It's not that hard.
