every person Ive spoken to about 9/11 in my home state believes the US government are behind it too

Think about it, they have everything to gain for the next 50 years or so.
America is simply about business, all it wants to to make money, and Israel surrounded by enemies wants some sort of peace. So why not frame Bin Laden into the 9/11 mix.
America would then have the excuse to start to tidy up the middle east which would preserve its market for oil (no I don't think they want to grab it, America is generally fair and I think they'll pay a fair price for it). Also Israel would get most if not all of its hardcore enemies eliminated and some sort of peace would prevail over the entire middle east.
So Bin Laden was framed, the lap-dancing bombers (strange that, alongside the plans found in the car at the airport 'how to fly a plane', alongside M.Atta's passport found in the rubble) most probably thought they were doing a simple hi-jack. And then something else took over and flew the planes. And if you think about it, what a truly great display in low level precision flying, sort of like a learner driver driving a Formula 1 car perfectly.
So everyone wins over the long run, America get's a good oil supply, Israel gets some peace from its agressive neighbors and the world is a safer place, which means America can make even more money selling them things. Of course the 5000 dead is terrible, but think what the death toll of the world would be over the next 20 years if the middle east had been continued to boil and bubble.
Also don't you think it's strange that not a wisper has been heard from Bin Laden in over 2 years? I mean how hard can it be to buy a $500 video camera and smuggle out a decent tape to one of the networks. The reason why Bin Laden has been quiet is simple, either the US/Israel has killed him (but don't tell anyone because then they don't have an excuse for war) or the US/Israel has got him in a safe house somewhere. How about Area 51
