dog owners

i wanted to take the light off of acacia and visa/mc for a bit and ask does anyone else besides me cook full meals for their dogs? i'm talking steak, grilled chicken, grilled pork chops, etc....

my grocery bill is insane and these are only 20-30 lb dogs (at the most!).

I have a Jack Russell mix and an Italian Greyhound. They eat dry food. Nothing else but dog treats. No scraps, no 'people' food, etc. And they always get the same food... according to my vet, their digestions just aren't up for changes.

I do, my dogs are pretty spoiled in what they eat, they won't touch any canned food.
Rotisserie chicken, steak, ribs (no bones) and other goodies.
They eat better than I do.

My dog eats mostly dog food, with the occassional scrap of steak as a treat and he is a fairly big dog rottie lab cross somewhere around 100 lbs. poeple food just isn't good for dogs.

I treat Sully to some good stuff pretty much every day, but I don't go mental about it. He gets a "breath buster" dog biscuit, and one of those "Tbonz" chewy things, and I usually pour some scraps mixed with warm water over his dry dog food (he loves when I do that).

But full meals? Steak dinners? Hell no. With the expensive premium dog food I feed him, at least I know he's getting all the nutrients he needs.

they're family so it's not ridiculous and any dog, or pet owner for that fact, will tell you that when a pet becomes family, you will do anything for that pet (s).

i have 2 pugs which are the closest things to kids i will ever get and i treat them as such.

My grandparents used to feed their dog like that... whatever they ate for dinner, so would the dog. He even got a scoop of vanilla ice cream every night before bed. The vet told them repeatedly that they were spoiling the dog to death (literally), but they would rather have a happy spoiled dog that didn't live quite so long than an old bored healthy dog. That dog lived to be almost 14 years old.

Feeding them too much people food may be nice for them today, but it may not be very healthy for them in the long run. I would rather feed my dog a premium dry dog food with the occasional treat and have him live longer, than feed him a lot of people food and risk losing him at 10 or 12 years. Sully is 13 now, and he still runs and plays like a puppy, full of energy and health. I hope to have him around and alive and happy for a few more years years yet.

One in a while I'd give my dog bowls of pasta with sauce on it, and he wouldn't eat it until I put grated cheese on top. Food snob

my dogs LOVE bacon but since it's so fatty, i give it to them maybe once a month and they only get a couple of pieces.

they are so picky over dog treats that it's hard to buy that stuff.

my younger puppy likes milkbones so i give that to them once a day (the older puppy eats them only because the younger one does....talk about kid like mentalities...lol)

I dont feed them that kind of food, but I do cook for my boys ( I have 2 french bulldogs http://www.bulldogfrench.com )
I order a special holistic food for them from canada, its a powder mix or vitamins and such, you mix it with ground chicken, green beans, carrots and some other stuff and then cook it like a casarol.

this food is healthy and will not make them fat. The food and where I order it from is on my french bulldogs website under the pet diet link if your interested in it. I am also the Nevada contact for the Frensh Bulldog rescue network. We rescue frog dogs who are abused, hurt or that someone finds in a dog pound, they contact me and I go get them, take them to southern california where a regional person has a vet and other assets to care for the dog untill we can find a foster home for him or her.

real food is the best thing for dogs it's less processed from fish to gizzards my dogs live like kings and queens and why not , and btw could imagine eating cereal every day like dog food or look at the labels on that food ,my dogs do get dog food too but it's a mix of real and dog food.but if you're interested in making food there's a list of foods dogs shouldn't have like onions come to mind.

I used to feed my black lab a lot more "people" food until she was diagnosed with a hypoactive thyroid (hypo - i think thats the right one, where it doesnt work quickly enough) and she was gaining too much weight. Got her on some medication now and less people food and her weight and overall health are right-on. It's nice to see them get so happy over all the good food but you have to realize that they aren't so health-conscious so we need to be for them.

like eveyone else here said, stick with a dry dog food, human food for dogs in the long run is not very healthy for them.

I have 2 boxers, they both get fed iams dry food mixed in with a can of wet dog food for there meals. Once in a while i give my dogs scrapes etc, but they dont depend on it, They know if they dont eat there food in there bowl they will starve.

Leave dry dog food mixed with a can of wet in there bowl, if they dont eat leave it there till they starve themselves, eventually they will eat it.
