Anyone else think this is possibly a typo?

The companies said in a statement Overture would receive 0.6108 shares of Yahoo stock and $4.75 in cash.

Google reached 37.3 million people in the United States in the month of December. Yahoo Search follows with 36.5 million visitors, and MSN Search is third with 34.3 million

This is more than just Yahoo, there are a lot of other nice packages as part of this deal.

Could be Yahoo, The Google Slayer.

if i owned yahoo, i would make http://adult.yahoo.com or some shit and put a big link to it on my main page. I would have people put their credit card and confirm they are 18+

Then i'll have all niches, anal, etc ( maybe 50 sites total all mine )

Then the users can sign up to them..

Imagine.. hehe

Yahoo's users are loyal. I imagine they would get thousands of signups a day if they set something like that up..

I mean if yahoo could get a hosting company and charge like $1/GB+ and still get tons of users, they can get porn sites and charge $49.99/month.

Extra millions per month wouldnt hurt.

Overture had major deals with MSN, that it just expanded into international markets.

Overture recently got Frank Biondi.. served as CEO of Coke, Viacom, Seagram, HBO, etc.

Overture owned Altavista, and it's largest multimedia index.

Overture owned FAST ( All The Web ).

Yahoo has been positioning itself to break away from google for a while now. I can't wait, google needs some decent competition. 2004 Should be an interesting year with an independent yahoo and MSN search. And of course MSN is going to install a standard default toolbar inside internet explorer that is curiously similiar to the google toolbar and grabs its querys from the MSN database. Codename longhorn.

MS Story:

http://news.com.com/2009-1032_3-1020...g=fd_lede1_hed

I especially like this quote:

Neither Google nor Microsoft made executives available for this report. However, in a recent interview with The Seattle Times, Microsoft executive Jim Allchin said condescendingly: "Google's a very nice system, but compared to my vision, it's pathetic."

It's all about search results quality. Google is the best. It gets you what you want. Overture doesn't. MSN might have something to compete with Google by 2005 if Microsoft spends enough money on developing good search algos

I hope this means Yahoo will accept 'adult' search terms now.

When looking at the graphs I see something that might become important in the next 6 months. Google is about to get killed. Yeah, I said it. Google is about to get killed.

They come in # 4 at 82,886,858 searches. That's roughly 66% of Yahoo's total searches. Google is still a relative unknown to the internet layman which is 90% of the people on the net. I'm willing to bet most of those searches are from providing results for other larger engines. Once those other engines start providing their own search results, as they are all trying to do, you will see Google either change into a Yahoo model or die. Also watch MSN. When they finally switch over to their own spiders they will automatically be as large as Google by themselves.

What's most interesting in the graph is the Time Per Person figures on the first three and E-Bay. It leads me to believe there are much more profitable things to focus on than the constant positioning for Google spots which is time consuming.

They were just discussing Yahoo's purchase of Overture on FOXNEWS. Overture was up over 10 points today with the news.
