well, correct me if I'm wrong but server stats and your server-status page should suffice. I don't see a reason to give you shell access to anything - just out of curiosity what exactly would you be looking at while sitting in ssh on my server?Originally posted by kios

Its enough to sit for an hour with the "watch"-command and looking at the access log. That will take away 99% of the scammers. Ok so you're one valid comment of watching which you should have said tailing the access log does make sense. but that can be easily done with a nice little perl, bash or whatever else script where it will tail the access log and output the results to a webpage which you can browse in real time. To confirm that this is real and not some fake "re-cating" of a log file you would access the site, copy the current text from the webpage displaying the log file and see if your access appears.
Now since you requested small TGPs and said you would do a closer check on larger TGPs you kind of shot yourself in the foot. But in any case please do explain what you would do upon a closer inspection?
I do have a TGP I was thinking of unloading.

I can't understand all the fear of giving away shellaccess. If you have just a little bit of brain and know a few more things than the "ls" command you would also have a kinda secure server and setup a shellaccount with access to only a few commands and the logs.
I know most people here are not even webmasters, so I understand the replys I get to a thread like this.

Well good looks like you arent a scammer but you should realize that most people dont want to bother to go through the trouble of setting up a proper jail, especialy if they dont have root, which is more than likely for a smaller tgp since it may be virtually hosted or semi-dedicated without root access.
My TGP did about 2K I really didnt take care of it and when I switched hosting I kind of let it die, but I am thinking of reviving it. I doubt you would want it it's current state. Taking care of too much other shit that is more important, sort of just started as pet project
