I am up too

rockbear 07-12-2003 10:45 AM

Damn I hope to get a real answer about this downtime.

If DavidD could answer us it could be great and professional

cosis 07-12-2003 10:47 AM

Candid should clone DavidD and put him on ICQ

basschick 07-12-2003 10:49 AM

Ill update as soon as possible.

Im working on finding out what was up right now.

Just spoke to Charles,

We had some issues with our transport providers and it was all on there end, we had resolved the situation as quickly as possible, rerouted traffic and everthing is coming back up as we speak...if your still currently down, holler to us on ICQ or call the NOC and your machines will be brought back up in the order the calls/messages are recieved.

Hope this helps.

basschick 07-12-2003 10:53 AM

unfortunately you can count on by having a lot of listings dropped after an hour...

Yeah. Damn Germes.

rockbear 07-12-2003 10:55 AM

Cosis you are right about that.

For sure candid could make a lot more if they could do that. I know a few big webmasters that have left candid because of the technical support they had been given on icq. :(

Ok, everything is up -- this is good. But it's really slooooow - this is bad.

Any information on when everything will be back to its normal blazing fast self?

my server connection isn't slow exactly... more sporadic. it sends a few k, then pauses to catch its breath.

Listen I'm in general a very happy Candid customer but I have to
say that your support sucks donkey balls and you guys know it.
Holler ICQ support? Have you actually tried that yourself once?
Hardly you will get any response within half an hour.

Sending Support tickets? Yeah right.....I don't even waste time
anymore on sending them. Then 1 last thing.....the notifications
you always give on message boards whenever there is a problem.

Take my free advice....if you don't want to tell the real problem
it's better to don't post anything. The complete bullshit and utter
lies you guy post......like this one you just posted isn't going to
fool anyone with half a brain. Seriously it's always:

1: powercuts......(Iraq seem to have less)
2: problems on transit providers/peering partners
3: exploded routers.

Come on guys statements like this are an insult to webmasters
who you obviously think are stupid enough to buy this crap.

Any provider has it's problems and that's ok, like I said before
I'm a really happy customer and your network DOES rock when
it works. But whenever there are problems nobody seems home
and we hear really funny but untrue reasons of what's going on.
You guys know it, it's not the first time someone is telling you this.
So cut the bullshit, be frank or shutup and get some extra people
on tech support coz we all know you could need a few.

my server seems to be running fine

Jakke PNG 07-12-2003 01:12 PM

Luckily I don't rely on candid support, but that is indeed something they could improve. I'm yet to see a reply to an icq message I sent a bit over a week ago. Also, a support email I sent hasn't been answered yet. Nothing drastic though. I'd like to know what the incident today was though.

Brad Mitchell 07-12-2003 01:12 PM

We all have network problems from time to time, I know I have...
and usually at the worst possible time! You might want to re-evaluate including this text on your website:

"Candid Hosting has huge fiber commitments with the following carriers, totalling over 3 gigs: UUNET, Time Warner, Level 3, and EPiK. By doing so, that will ensure 0:00 down time, not 1%, we mean 0% downtime."

You guys do a great job, everyone knows that. However, neither your company or any other can actually promise 0% downtime. It's our job as hosts to teach the newB's that these things do happen so that their expectations are proper. Best of luck!

me neither but when the network is down or I can't connect
to my box I'm sure as hell would like to talk to someone asap.
Either to bring me up to date or to reboot my box if necesary.
If someone needs real support.....well I even don't want to
think of the frustration they would have.

I agree I fell for that statement too and setup a server because of it. Over all the hosting is good but that statement is false and should be removed... False advertising.
