The Gallery People, you owe me money!

The Gallery People, you owe me money!

I don't really feel like telling the whole story what has happened. It would take way too long time. But I'll sum it up pretty quick.

I ordered galleries for $1300 March 20, 2003.

After 2 months I had recieved 14 galleries, lots of excuses and numerous lies from Joe.
I got pissed and didn't want anything to do with Joe, so Raquel took over. I told her I wanted a refund, she told me she would take care of it within a week.

She told me she FedExed it, one week later I had not received anything (a FedEx takes 24-48h).
Raquel disappeared and Joe refused to let me talk to her.
From now on Joe took over.
From then to now I have heard too many excuses to count why I didn't recieve the refund yesterday blah blah blah.

Couple of weeks ago I received $150 from one of Joe's clients, as a part payment of the money Joe owes me.

This monday or tuesday Joe sold The Gallery People to Kevin, so Joe and Raquel is not the owner of The Gallery People anymore.

This is the last email I received from Kevin ragarding my refund.

Quote:
Thanks you for teh congratulations, although I wish the purchase had come
under better circumstances.
I am aware of your situation, as Joe has kept me informed of the refund
status. Basically, I am not really going to be responsible for the refund,
but we have made it part of our deal. By this I mean that when I make my
purchase payment on Monday or Tuesday, any monies still due you will be
deducted from the purchase amount and transferred to you by Joe and I. This
way, your refund will be taken care of on or immediately before I actually
take ownership.

I don't usually work on the weekend, and as you know Friday is a holiday
here, so please accept my apolgies for not getting back to you a little
sooner.

Thank you
Kevin O'Dell
Their old phone number doesn't seem to work anymore. Joe doesn't answer emails, neither does Kevin. I sent the email during business hours yesterday, so they have had 2 business days to reply.

I have not recied any money or heard anything from them. Based on Joe's track record, he's not very trustworthy.
So I guess I just spent a shit load of money on absolutely nothing. Thank you The Gallery People.

Have anyone heard anything from The Gallery People this week or know a way to contact them?
If you do, I would appreciate it very much if you could tell me.

If you have any other advice, please let me know.

I really hope no one else is in the same situation.

Patric

If someone sends you a Fedex, tell them to give you the tracking number to prove they sent it and you can go on the Fedex site and track the envelope/package.

If they can't give you a tracking number then they never sent it.

I did try to get the tracking number "But she just ran out the door, I'll get it for you when she gets back".
"She's at home right now, and will be back at 9pm".
"She's <insert excuse here>"

So I realized pretty quick that it was never sent.

We got fucked by these guys too.

paid for 100 galleries back in February.... We have had only 16 made so far.

Since we first used these guys, we have heard nothing but excuses (Servers crashed, hardware upgrade, we have all got colds,i am having one helluva time with the text descritions and sales lines)... then the new guy takes over... Kevin - yipppe now we will get what we paid for right??? hmmm

Got this message from him on the 2nd of July after about fifty billion emails

"Nick,
This is Kevin from the Gallery People. I am one of the new owners of the service and will be glad to halp get your order taken care of. George and I, (my partner) have been going over all the files and we're showing that you have received approximately 16 galleries so far.

I will get together everything that Joe had together for you and will get your order back into design ASAP. I'm sorry I didn;t contact you yesterday when this email came in, but I have just started to get the emails for the site.

Thank you
Kevin O'Dell"

I have sent 2 emails since receiving that, haven't heard fuck all.

I have always said I would never bring any business shit to these boards, but the reason i am doing so is to warn other guys out there to ALWAYS be carefull with deals on the net.
Companies offering services can come from nowhere and hide behind a nice design and a domain name.... fucking asses, they take your money then dissapear....

After 3-4 years in the game I have never been ripped off until i found www.thegallerypeople.com - fuck you all

Aza, I agree to 100%. I would never bring shit like this to the boards, unless I feel completely ass raped.
After 4 months of lies and excuses, and lost $1300. I feel completely ass raped.

Odd- I have received several projects from them over the past few weeks. I have never been happier with any designer that I have hired than I am with Joe.

I ordered a few galleries back in february and they came about 30 days later. I did get them though... but what I wanted to say was that we all know better then to pay 100% up front to designers but for some reason it seemed okay to do it with thegallerypeople I guess because they were so long... and implied that there was such a waiting list ie. they were a good business that everyone trusted.

The only communication they initiated with me was the paypal request for money. Any other emails were just answers of my WHERES MY GALLERIES question and usually it was 10 days after I sent them. I decided pretty quick I would not do business with them again. But the real lesson is "no matter what do not send 100% up front".

100 galleries ordered in February.

7 recieved.!

Promised delivery 5 times - with NO delivery

ICQ 3rd Jul - "I will make certain that you get a decent delivery this weekend and all of your galleries in a much more timely manner"

..of course nothing was recieved and no contact made.

I don't understand this.

I've been doing gallery work for people for a very long time, and not once have I had someone say 'nah I don't want to pay you 50% to start' - I wouldn't even deal with someone like that, why? because anytime I have, it ended up bad.

I am glad the people I work with have the confidence or at least the FAITH in THEIR OWN decisions of trusting a desgner. Geez man, you guys make designers sound like crooks, not some, ALL OF THEM.

It's funny how the designer gets the bad rap, when I wish I had a nickel for everytime someone wasted days of my time talking to me about projects and blah bnlah blah, or everytime I have to CHASE DOWN clients for money.

I'm owed more than your rent right now ;)

And you want to know why I ask for money up front?

hahaha because there are WAY TOO MANY SCAMMERS AMONGST YOU.

I agree 100%. I've been screwed so many times and have wasted so much time with clients. Some of which are from this board. I think clients rip off the people that provide the service more than the other way around. It's just that we don't instantly come running to the board to bitch about it like the clients do. When I ask for a % up-front and the client is leary, I offer them references. If they are still leary after references then I know for sure it's not worth my time.

Joe was posting on the boards, people had only good to say about them. Everything looked fine.
That's why I trusted them. Look where we are now.
They have scammed people on thousands of dollars.

Susanna was talking about 100% upfront, not 50%.

I see no problem paying 50% upfront.
But I will never, NEVER ever pay 100% upfront again.

Ah ha.

I've never asked for 100%. Although many have paid me 100% up front because they know me ;)

That is bit different, pardon me.

INDEED

But the most amazing thing is that some people goes nuts trying to catch the "great deal" instead of working with known and trustable designers, then come here crying "I was scammed" He-llooo-oooo! Notice for you: 90% of these "good deals" end with the so called "designer" (or programmer or content provider or sponsor or traffic broker) dissapearing from the face of the Earth. This is not intended specifically to you, swedguy, I really feel sorry for you and if you want I can help you with your stuff, but I mean in general. Hope you (and the rest of the people here) learnt something, even if you had to learn the hard way. either way, did you try to recover the funds via Paypal? Maybe you still can

For the record: everybody who's in the mood, do a search for any "great deal" and then try again looking for the supposes "next big thing" when a couple of months later he/she is vanished. And if you don't learn now, well, OK, your loss

PD: Out of the top of my head, I can think of Fletch, TGF, Tom and us (of course) as the ones for gallery making. Maybe one or 2 more names, but next time play safe

Ah, and again: tra-la-la

You can only do that within 30 days. I sent the money 4 months ago, so it's too late

That designer fit what I was doing then. I just wanted filler galleries.
I don't think I want to use $30 galleries as filler galleries.

BTW. I have tried to contact you two times through ICQ and two times through email, but no reply. That was couple of months ago.

I have no problem paying designers upfront. On the same token, I only use designers that already have my trust and respect.

I ordered galleries for $1300 March 20, 2003.

If you are still looking for galleries let me know. I have some templates on the site that can be purchased right off. But I started doing custom galleries too for the same price. I already have a couple of large orders from people that had ordered from thegallerypeople.com.

Really sorry to hear that you folks got ripped off. I have a good friend who was also ripped off by these folks, it's good to see she wasn't a solitary case.. These people seem to be ok with smaller orders but not large ones. It's unfortunate.

Best to go with designers who have references. Paying 50% up front certainly isn't unusual, and myself, like Fletch have several customers who pay 100% up front because they know they'll get their work in a timely fashion. It DOES continue to baffle me though how there can be so many scammers on both sides.. It's easier to scam someone on the net I guess.. I hope you all get your issues resolved to your best satisfaction.

Fletch, your stuff rocks, btw man

weird, I always answer everything. I know some people sometimes cannot contact me on ICQ, that's due to the fact ICQ is just a piece of crap, but I usually don't have any trouble with mail. Anyway, we charge less than 30 and if it's in bulk, prices can go as low as 8-10 bucks depending on quantity. Either way, good luck on this matter.

And hey, at least you got that lousy signature!

I don't feel comfortable taking money upfront.. what if my design doesn't please the customer? I know I'm naive, but I'd rather satisfy my customers before asking money... Too bad some of your fuckheads rather take the fucking 200$ gallery order for free and vanish from the face of the earth...

If your design doesn't please them, you could always give them a refund :0 Put it in an account until the job is done and the rest is paid : ) It's a good policy.
