Be Careful What You Ask God For ::::

Lightning Strikes Preacher Who Asked For Sign

FOREST, Ohio -- Damage to a church in Forest, Ohio, is estimated at $20,000 after a preacher asked God for a sign.

A member of the First Baptist Church said a guest evangelist was preaching repentance and seeking a sign from God when lightning struck the steeple.

Ronnie Cheney called the incident "awesome, just awesome!"

Cheney said the lightning traveled through the microphone, blew out the sound system and enveloped the preacher, who wasn't hurt.

Afterward, services resumed for about 20 minutes until the congregation realized the church was on fire. The building was evacuated.

Reminds me about a case in Norway in the 1800's (I think). A small village in one of the most god fearing parts of the country was hit by an enormous thunderstorm, and the local priest opened the church to the villagers and offered them to seek refuge and pray there, because they thought the church would be safer than the village houses.

The church was hit by lightning, and burned to the ground, with most of the village population inside it...

I've looked for a reference on the incident, but I haven't found it, so I'm going entirely by memory, though.

It _might_ have been Grue church - it burned to the ground in 1825 together with 113 church goers because they were unable to get the doors open after they discovered the fire. But I seem to remember it being earlier than that, so there might be another incident as well.

Now go around and ask how many times people have asked for a sign and are yet to get one

That is the exact reason that I am no longer allowed in a church. They fear a lightning strike..

Most likely the visiting preacher was banging the secretary from the church the night before, and now he will be the straightest guy on the planet.

At least for a week.

Alot of churches are struck by lightening. Its really nothing new at all. The structure of them makes a likely target for electro magantic attraction with the crucifix often made of metal atop the the building.
