No help from sponsors?

I can understand why fellow webmasters wouldn't help each other get more traffic, but it baffles me no end why sponsor reps flat out refuse to give advice, or simply ignore requests for advice on how to send more traffic to thier sites.

It would sure seem to me that as an "account manager" for a sponsor, it would be beneficial to the site to give all the help you can to an affiliate.

It makes me wonder if the name of the game is to "protect" the one or two guys who are actually making money, while telling the other 50,000 affiliates to just "go out and work hard", hoping for one or two sales a year from them.

If you are willing to contact me for help, I am willing to respond WITH help and advise. But you must understand, that if sponsors give you advice and help and walk you through things, at least put an effort into pushing the traffic.

I do it myself soemtimes, I get in touch with sponsors, work out all the goodies, and on my end I never end up sending traffic until a long time down the road. Usualy within 2-3 months of initial contact. Mostly because I have other projects, or I just don't feel I have not grasped enough traffic yet to determine the validitity of the sponsor yet.

Here is a perfect example, I worked out a strategy for promoting nakedcoolegegirls.tv yet I don't have enough targeted traffic to benefit his site yet. But when I do, I will push it.

If your post was a cry for help I would be more than willing to get you on the right track promoting the site in my sig.

No offense taken. I have been struggling in this business for a couple of years, putting as much spare time as I can into it, but have simply not found the right path yet.

"go out and work hard" is the best advice you'll ever get.
Thinking the sponsor should show you how to make money means you won't be here next year.
its that simple.

I get ICQs all the time from people who want help promoting my sites. I am happy to answer their questions. I think part of my job is helping people make my sites convert, so they will make more money with my program and stick with it. That's good for everyone.

Having worked for a major corportation, I find this philosophy strange. Major manufacturers employ hundreds of people whose sole purpose is to help wholesalers drive more traffic and more sales. I find it odd that this industry does not have the same overall philosophy.

That having been said, I must say that I appreciate the advice I just recieved from AEBN Michael, and am in the process of contacting everyone else who offered help.

As far as "working hard", I am no stranger to that. My request for help is not a request to avoid work. It is simply a request for someone to help me find a better way to dig a ditch. (using a backhoe rather than a shovel...if that makes sense).

If you don?t know how to go about getting more traffic then you should go back to basics. If this is the only question you are asking sponsors then - what 12clicks said.

But if you want advice on how to best integrate or promote then that?s a different story.

Coca-Cola will provide you with every conceivable marketing tool but they wont go out and find the customers for you.

Just because a guy shows up with a pencil case does not mean that he should be taught architecture by the boss.
He needs to come with skills.

I don't want to quarrel. I quarrel enough with my girlfriends. I have read a lot of your posts and respect your position in the industry. I'm not asking for any hand outs, just for some direction, that's all.

I appreciate all of those who have offered to point me in a better direction than I have been traveling for the past three years.

I think you are correct. I told you via ICQ that I had to go work on my day job, but all of you guys are being very helpful, so I decided that the boss can wait a few minutes.

I'm wondering what sponsors you've been working with, because honestly I've never met a sponsor (owner or rep) who wasn't completely willing to take the time to answer any questions I had. Matter of fact, when I first came to this side of the fence, I was blown away by the personalized help that each sponsor extended to their affiliates; you do *not* see that in the mainstream online affiliate programs. (Mainstream offline perhaps, but definitely not mainstream online.)

Anyhow after you get done talking with all of these guys, head over to Tom's Newbie Booster and read through his articles and tutorials...
http://www.tomsnewbiebooster.com/articles.html
You'll find a mind-blowing wealth of information there.

Sleazybear over at Net*Pond is also willing to bend over backwards to help you out, swing by the threaded forums and say hi.

Quite frankly, I must now agree with you completely. Obviously I simply asked the wrong sponsors for advice, because since posting this thread I have been overwhelmed with good advice (including yours).
