I just moved to the UK from Canada and I'm having a hard time finding a bank that will allow me to cash my US cheques without paying huge...er, HUGE nogotiation fees.
HSBC will allow minimum 4 cheques at 4GBP each. Lloyds, I have been told, will do it for 5GBP if the cheque is under 100GBP or 0.20GBP (minimum 8GBP, max 80GBP) per negotiation (save your cheques and bring a bunch in). I just got back from there and have been told by the manager that it's not per negotiation, it's per cheque. What is everyone else doing? LW |

I use Lloyds TSB, the thing with them though is, YOU have to tell them how it works!
They will tell you till they are blue in face that it is per cheque, but it's not. It's per currency. Costs me normally between £8 and about £15. I always wait till I got about $10-$15,000 before converting. |

Oh, and don't even bother with Bank of Scotland, affiliated with Halifax. They tried to STEAL over $15000 from me, and their staff are clueless ignorant dipshits.

I went with Lloyds TSB. I make a deposit either every two weeks or every month. £5 a shot isn't bad.

If you've moved from Canada do you not still have a bank account there? I moved from the US and kept my US bank account. I send the few cheques I get back to them and draw the cash out at an ATM. I don't do this much though, most of my payments come either via paypal or wire transfer.

If you have £2k to deposit Citibank will give you two accounts. 1 for GBP and one for USD. Best solution I've seen so far.
