Manson isn't any more a serial killer than say... Jim Jones (Jonestown Cult). You'd have to read some knowledgable literature on the nature and patterns of serial killers, but in short, Manson was a cult leader who could be categorized more along the lines of spree/mass murderer. Anyway, serial killers almost never involve others in their killings. By most accounts they do their killings alone, or at most with the cooperation of just one other individual.
