This is basically the same principle as Mr Skin's site put on video. Editorial reviews of certain scenes from movies is fully legal and this guy made a compilation and is selling it on video.

They run ads for celeb nudity videos on late night TV along with GGW and the other stuff.

I doubt they have permission. Maybe they are counting on some sort of fair use law or something.

Anyone know for sure?

Believe me he has no permission from anybody.

He's trying to do what Mr. Skin does and stay legal. It's probably not. It's a risk, but if you set your company up right, not much of a risk and the potential rewards are great.

People assume Mr. Skin is legal, doesn't mean he is, just means nobody has sued him successfully. I think the movie studios have bigger things to worry about so they ignore the celeb movie sites.

This guy advertising this thing on TV to me is like waving a red cape at a bull. And it will be an actress probably who starts trouble for him more likely than a studio.

Don't see how they would win.

If they didn't want to be on TV, or in that scene -- then give back the 7 million dollars or whatever they got paid

Thanks for the info. I wondered what they were up to.

I think they have a decent case, if they have commentary and all that, like movie review shows. Then again, whoever has the biggest lawyers usually wins, and I doubt they have bigger lawyers than Hollywood.

I think the studios probably look at it as free promotion for their DVD sales. I'm sure he mentions what movie the scene is from, so it's almost like giving the movie free advertisement.

Mr. Skin is a good example. He shows the sex scenes, and (in theory) after you see the small, not-so-DVD-quality MPG or AVI, you suddenly get an urge to run out and rent it to watch on your big screen.

I don't know if the same would apply for this video (since you can see it on your big screen already), but who knows.

Chapo on the legal board on Ynot was asked about Mr Skins a few weeks back...here's what he had to say:

"haven't a clue regarding the position taken by MrSkin in regard to copyright issues. Personally, I would argue that the site is conducting reviews of the films and the use of strips is simply a part of that commentary. Under copyright law, you can include such material in a critical commentary without obtaining permission from the copyright owner.

From a practical point of view, I doubt that the film industry has any problem with MrSkin because of the publicity. The site is not showing large chunks of the movies and actually entices people to view the movies. This is particularly true since you hear "Mr Skin" on Howard Stern, which is invaluable free publicity in a demographic [people looking for nudity in films] that the studios cannot directly access through marketing. Publicity?publicity?publicity?"

that is exactly Mr. Skin's formula. I've read where Mr. Skin has said he is actually sent 'screeners' for new movies. He's reached a status where I can believe that. Him mentioning a hot scene on Howard Stern is great free publicity.

That guy is banking bucks for sure.

That's the kind of gimmick where he can pop a million or more units out. Gross tens of millions and have plenty left for a legal defense fund.
