there simply can't be anything more entertaining than those bashing an OS who are not even sure why they don't like it in the first place...

UNIX sucks LOL.

I used to be forced to work on Macs.... and in most cases, I opted to dump the job. (Commission based) AT&T's policy was...

"I got a Mac here..."
"Tell them to buy a PC and reschedule."

"Sir, you need to buy a PC."
"What?!"
"Sorry. Your computer is a block of cheese. Have a nice day."

"432 10-8 Avalon."
"10-4 432."

all I'm saying is I'm not bashing an OS I know nothing about, as you said. I've been on both. I've been inside both.

I'll keep my PCs.

cool. i still use current windows in a limited fashion. you (possibly) comparing previous mac os's to OSX is funny - since it's complete unix based - and pretty fucking beautiful if you admire unix machines.

anyway, cheers amp

GASP!!

slackware is the closest linux flavor to FreeBSD though... what's your beef with the daemon?

i don't restart programs every 15 minutes, either. win2k pro pretty much got rid of that, but it still had a few bugs. win xp is very solid for the most part, except for some of the software i use is unstable because of the people who made it.

unless you count adobe, i have trouble with golive sometimes just crashing.

Argh I hate golive, much prefer dreamweaver...
I think I used version 5, would just lock solid for random reasons.

Like I said linux distro's are a very personal choice almost like boxers of briefs...the fact that I like slackware comes from a series of e-commerce development projects where I was on slackware for along time. It was clean...

People have told me I would love debain...

My home XP box goes down for only a handful of reasons..
1) Power Outage
2) Reboot from software install
3) I shut it down before doing a music recording project
4) I've decided to format it (which i do every 3-4 months)

This thing has never once crashed out on me, sure i've hand applications die...but the core stayed stable.. I'm actualy impressed with XP... (I HATED with a passion ME)

I've always been a Debian user myself. However, I wanted to play around with FreeBSD so I ended up putting it on one of my laptops. It isn't that bad.

Quiet, can you run most windows software... I mean, how hard is it... like all those freeware/shareware and shit like that you find on the web ... can you run that on mac,... have no experience with macs... only old apple of old that people make fish tanks of nowadays

Hmmm, as much as I hate XP (for my own reasons) it doesn't crash. Win2kPro is even more stable.

And there's so much software for them.

Why? Does windows corrupts itself that quickly...

Quiet, I've gotta agree. Mac's for workstations and freebsd for servers. It works for me, it's productive, and cost effective.

Here's a good example of why Macs are good.

A friend has a print company that has been around for awhile. In 1989 they bought a Mac SE/30 and a 286 machine with Windows 2. The use for both machines was graphics and page layout.

The se/30 is still being used for simple page layout (pagemaker), the accounting software and MS Excel for costing spreadsheets.

The 286 machine was retired in 1992. And is currently a landfill resident.

The SE/30 cost $3500 back in 1989. Which works out to $250 a year for the hardware.

The 286 cost $2700 in 1989 and lasted 3 years. Which works out to $900 a year for the hardware.

Which one is more cost effective? The machine that still does everything they want, or the machine they have to buy a replacement for every 2 to 3 years?

;)
