yes, it is a new, graphical version of *nix for the masses (kinda like redhat.. yuck!), with the goodness of being able to use things like photoshop.

it's _based_ on FreeBSD, however it isn't FreeBSD. kinda like FreeBSD is based on BSD, but it's not really BSD.

therefore, it's a tainted version of FreeBSD.

i think it's an awesome OS. the first *nix that can run photoshop and stuff. i'm really hoping this will give way to adobe and macromedia porting apps to the normal *nix community. i'd wet myself if that happened.

i could be wrong on this, but i would think also if it were a true FreeBSD, than FreeBSD-native apps could run "out of the box" precompiled in osx. from what i hear this is not the case. i do have a possible explanation for this, but no sense in giving that away.

also, osx is not x11. not entirely surprising really, but if it were a true FreeBSD as well, then i'd think it would run x11 natively. you can run apple's version of x11 on osx, but it's not there inherently. because of the structure of x11, all x11 programs should be able to directly run in osx without installing x11 server.

so anyway, it's still cool, just not FreeBSD.

sorry, i'm rather disappointed with apple lately since their release of the g5... that left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

If you press the back of the case where the monitor is you will get lcd distortion...

Now this box was going to be used onstage to record bands or operate as a sequencer and sampler. I needed it to be rock solid theres ALOT of vibration on a stage plus the lights and the heat. Figured if my finger could warp the display it was not up to par.

NOW... The Standard Ibook does not have this flaw...
Its fucking rock solid..BUT its not G4...

Seriously this company has the worst marketing decisions i've ever seen. Its like they want to keep there market share where it is.

I left the store and ordered an alienware my laptop may weight 10 pounds but its got 4 cooling fans and could survive a carbombing.

Im all for use whats good for you..some people use fireworks some use photoshop there both killer programs, some people just click to one more than the other.. No problem...

Most people and mac people to, don't give a shit about it or the benchmarks. I could care less what the benchmarks on a G5 are, as long as it's a good computer and runs faster than the previous generation then I'm cool with it for the most part, but not totally.

PC users bash Mac users because Mac users feel the need to shove the few merits of using a Mac down their throats like it's a religion or something. You guys are like Christian missionaries in friggin Israel. I'm sorry, I'm getting off course but it's basically the same thing. Macs look cool and unless you do some heavy video or audio a basic Mac or a PC will work for you. It makes no difference but you guys will fight tooth and nail to convince us you use the best computers.

I own both so I know the merits of both. Both suck in some ways. But I hope you guys continue to worship Steve Jobs so I can continue to have fun with you guys and your little processors.

Mac users have an extreme case of large processor envy. It's typical of guys with small processors... they are always lying about their size.

acutally if you read what I say i don't push it on anyone. as i mentioned already, i don't care to fight or debate the merits of macs, whatever works for people works and that's cool with me.

ok, i'd go into detail but i don't feel like it. however, i don't think apple represented themselves very well. if this sort of thing happened in the pc world, the mfr would be ripped apart by their followers, and they have been.


i've seen mac zealots, and there really seem to not be on this board. the type of people that will use extremely offensive terminology to simply describe someone that disagrees with any aspect of the mac (including the release of the g5). i think that's a little excessive, and not something i've ever seen out of a pc user. i'm sure it happens.

the os is very nice, it's all good technology. it just hasn't been my preference, and i'm a sucker for gadgetry and fast things. so, that's my stance.

in the meantime, while deciding what i want to do, i'll cross my fingers some of this software starts leaking to the general *nix community.

some of the reasons i use the mac are no viruses,spyware, and less security holes in the OS,.Its good that apple has less market share are they would have the same probelms pc's have

I think I'm probly finding more humor in it than most... and for different reasons. I tend to deconstruct production and look at the presentation and compilation of things rather than the base message. I love the guy's presentation of it and the production of it.... his mannerisms and presentation are pure fucking comedy. I can see a couple spots that could be improved, but overall.... I enjoyed. :)

Last year I suffered a mild stroke while shopping in a compUSA and walked out with a G4. OSX is interesting, I like the unix guts. But I cant use it because the mouse makes me froth at the fucking mouth. And no warez. And crackable shareware? Fucking forget it.

so here it sits, in a corner, unused. A couple thousand down the shitter.

Anyone wanna trade some content for it? Used it for maybe a couple of weeks. I had to learn the hard way.
