NO, but I AM under the impression that some of these hotlinking nitwits just might end up costing some newbie their hosting and possibly their entire adult business by driving up a bandwidth bill that a newbie couldn't possibly pay.

Take the site down, the hotlinking stops. At least until it starts happening at another board. Take that one down and so on, and the cycle slows down some.

Every single site that has stolen passwords, stolen content, stolen bandwidth... they ALL affect the industry. It's not just ONE, it's THOUSANDS. Taking down one helps a little. If none were ever taken down there would be a whole hell of alot more of them around today doing damage. Every single one that can be eliminated makes a difference.

Well, I for one didn't spend any time trying to take the site down, but I guess I would have if it had been my site that was hotlinked. I almost got shut down years ago because I got hotlinked and had a bandwidth bill that was almost as much as my rent. Luckily I found someone to host my sites really cheap until I could find a new host. Took me forever to pay that old bandwidth bill off. Luckily, my host alerted me to the problem and taught me how to install .htaccess, but before that I had no idea how to prevent hotlinking, or even that I needed to.

I was no idiot, just not informed of the need to protect my bandwidth.

I understand that you feel this action isn't necessary, but there are some who do. Just shows you why there is a need for freedom of speech, so many different opinions. :)

One thing the DMCA is good for. If the Chinese host doesn't pull the plug, you can bump the infringment notices up to their upstream providers. Eventually you'll get one who fears a DMCA lawsuit more than cutting the wire.
