Why don't you discuss here The Lord of the Rings or something like that? Do you really think that Harry Potter is a better thing for 18+ people?

eroswebmaster 06-19-2003 03:36 PM

My favorites growing up were the Chronicles Of Narnia.

I read that series no less than 3 or 4 times.

Anyone that can't appreciate a good book, childrens books or adults, is really missing out on a whole new world. Some of the stuff they're coming out with these days is great, especially the movies. Christ, when I first saw the trailer for Finding Nemo at The Matrix Reloaded I laughed my ass off. Now I don't to go see the damn thing! A couple months back a friend and I rented Monsters, Inc... I felt stupid watching it but I found it pretty damn funny.

Some people need to lighten up...

I've read Lord Of The Rings.....my son is reading it, my nephew is reading it, does that mean it's a kids book and you are above it?

FlyingIguana 06-19-2003 04:05 PM

It doesn't, however personally I feel envy (in a good sense) to you and your family couse I have no time to read belees-lettres. I have only the time to read Java, JavaScrip, PHP, C/C++ manuals and other shit like that :(

gothweb 06-19-2003 04:52 PM

I can't admit to having read any of them; Vail read all of them to me. Since she is gone for months, I will be reading the latest one to myself when it arrives this weekend or early next week.

x2dio 06-19-2003 04:55 PM

seriously, make time, the best thing you can do for your child is show them the joy of reading. I don't mean to get preachy, I just know the wolrd that opened up to me when I started reading. By the time I was 11, I was reading books like "Serpico" and "The Exorcist" (not that I reomend those books for kids ;-))

In addition to fantasy, I love reading non-fiction as well, especially George Soros, Og Mandina and Ann Raynd. I also love a good Stephen King book and have troubles putting down anything by Micheal Crichton.

I used to have that problem of not having enough time reading, so I made an hour 3-4 nights per week, where the TV goes off, the computer monitor gets turned off and the kids and I all read for an hour, whether it's Harry Potter, the latest in the Dr. Seuss collection that I somehow subscribed too or even a good old Encyclopedia Brown mystery. Some nights we read to ourselves and other nights we'll have a designated reader read to the rest of us.

SykkBoy 06-19-2003 05:14 PM

fuck, maybe I should read a "Typing For Dummies" book

Joe Sixpack 06-19-2003 05:16 PM

I cannot imagine anything more painful than having to read through a novel of that prepuescent rubbish.

Fiction irritates me unless it's something vaguely autobiographical like Charles Bukowski's stuff.

As a rule, I prefer non-fiction.

cold_ice 06-19-2003 05:36 PM

I have read all four books and found them to be very good. The fourth book is the one that I liked the best by far. The movies are also good but nowhere near the books. A lot has been left out.

I have been looking foward to reading the fifth book and will proably be one of those crazy people buying it at midnight :)

I will also admit to rereading all the books so that they are fresh in my mind as I read the fifth book:winkwink:

To all the haters:321GFY

Chris E 06-20-2003 03:33 PM

Harry Potter is launched in 28 mins!

gothweb 06-21-2003 09:04 AM

My copy arrived from Amazon this morning. Damn this book is huge for a children's book... It's like half as thick as it it wide.

<IMX> 06-21-2003 09:14 AM

I happy, it has my nephews reading :)

Beastiepoo 06-21-2003 10:42 AM

I read and enjoy and even see the films. I'm young at heart.:)

Peaches 06-21-2003 11:44 AM

I've read every one and had the 4th one FedEx'd to me the day it came out. My kid's working at Walmart this summer, so he got us both our own copies today. :)

As soon as I finish getting some work done and cleaning the porch (originally I was going to clean the whole downstairs...now it's just the porch - and only that because we're having dinner there tonight :winkwink: ) I'm headed outside to wonderful day and plopping my big butt down to spend the rest of the day with Harry! :thumbsup

69adulthost 06-21-2003 01:00 PM

I don't read the books, but i've seen the movie.
