Have You Tried Brewing...

Beer at home? I've been thinking about it lately...not sure exactly how I want to do it...

All from scratch, as in the container itself or buy a little beer machine...

So, has anyone tried it at home?

Too much trouble?
Beer sucked?

I used to make my own wine but I havne't tried beer. Actually hate beer myself but I had a friend who did beer and it was basically the same thing. So to a brew your own store and they will set you up with a kit. I think you can get alot of the supplies in grocery stores now. At least in Canada you can.

Beer is cheap and it is unlikely you could do better than Heineken in your garage anyways, so there seems to be very little point to brewing your own IMO. Maybe as a hobby I guess?

Grandpa used to make cherry wine & mint beer at home. Unfortunately, I was too young to try any & he passed away when I was still young. However, according to my mom & uncle, they stuff was pretty good.

Same here... and every batch they make tastes different. Some of it has been really fucking good. Others have been so-so, but so far not one batch has been bunk!

Beer is easy, and is almost impossible to fuck up. (Except for bottling too soon and having your bottles explode in messy and dangerous fashion, so don't do that.)

In my experience, about half the batches are excellent and the other half are like "Ok, that's drinkable, but it's obviously homebrew, let's do better next time."

If you like beers with color and flavor, you can make stuff at home that's damn fine, for half the cost or less than buying it. If you drink clear yellow piss beer, you can make that too but it won't be much cheaper than the cans you are drinking now.

I've gotten out of making beer because I've slowed down on drinking the stuff -- it's got a lot of sugar in it and sugar fucks me up. However I still make a bit of dry mead (honey wine) because it's damn good and you just can't hardly buy it anywhere.
