Oh, hey.

Don't let me interrupt anything.

I'm just going to pop in a quick note in the spirit of the original question.

I'm single.

That's all.

Have yourself a splendiferous bit war.

USA single or Canadian single?

HS-Trixxxia 06-17-2003 10:12 PM

According to Americans, is the term 'Single' attached to financial obligations? Single means you don't have someone who you are either falling in love or in love with. It means that if it tickles your fancy, you will not feel any guilt in having sex with whomever crosses your path. If you don't feel like going home tonight, it's not a problem - nobody to call - nobody to answer to.

Single means you are not in a relationship - whether you are in America, Canada, or Timbuktu.

Here's the meaning for all the engineers without a degree:

Pronunciation: 'si[ng]-g&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin singulus one only; akin to Latin sem- one -- more at SAME
Date: 14th century
1 a : not married b : of or relating to celibacy
2 : unaccompanied by others : LONE, SOLE <the single survivor of the disaster>
3 a (1) : consisting of or having only one part, feature, or portion <single consonants> (2) : consisting of one as opposed to or in contrast with many : UNIFORM <a single standard for men and women> (3) : consisting of only one in number <holds to a single ideal> b : having but one whorl of petals or ray flowers <a single rose>
4 a : consisting of a separate unique whole : INDIVIDUAL <every single citizen> b : of, relating to, or involving only one person
5 a : FRANK, HONEST <a single devotion> b : exclusively attentive <an eye single to the truth>
6 : UNBROKEN, UNDIVIDED
7 : having no equal or like : SINGULAR
8 : designed for the use of one person only <a single room> <single bed>

Another Canadian. Have you heard of "common usage"? Common usage in the USA for "single" is not married. Girlfriends...live in's do not count as not being single...if you are not married then you are single.

I only have a problem with forieners that do not know what they are talking about when they try to apply their usage as being common usage to another country.

Hey Quiet....Before your common law settlement did your gf promise not to claim support?

I am on month 5 and will be common law next month. I just talked to my lawyer yesterday about this and it will cost me $3000
to do a co-habitation agreement which may or may not be held up in court.

I am totally thinking about just running for it.

you haven't said "I do" in a legally recognized fashion...whether it be marriage or common law, then you have a way out with no financial/arbitrary obligation.

to get "semantics" out of the way...
X is single = (df) If X is neither financially nor obligated to Y in any fashion according to accepted legal standards, then X is single.

Being single is a grand thing...

Blah, blah, blah...cut the brainiac shit and answer the fucking question, aeon. If you're still conscious.

So who's hangin' out in the bat cave with you? I've heard rumors about what it takes to get in.

Made my post as you made yours there... Glad someone else agreed.

Rochard 06-09-2014 10:31 AM

It cracks me up when people say they are not single because they are dating. If you are dating, you are not married, and very single.

kittykatt 06-09-2014 10:45 AM

I'm single and thats the way I like it :banana:321GFY

So are you saying you are still single if you are in a long term monogamous dating relationship? Marriage isn't the only criteria for not being single.

single in the winter not so much for those of us buried in snow that choose to hibernate in the winter

Check out the definition of "single". Marriage is not necessary for "not single" to be valid.

If what you said was true, people would ask "are you married" instead of "are you not single". But this isn't true.
