When we had our first paysite in early 95, we did the same as you escort..

Sites on Sparc 5, would send out billing info to a nt station running icverify, would dial out and check CC, if it was good, would put all info into lotus, then via ntfs I think would send user/pass back to sparc

It was all great fun!!
