If i got you the .psd files for the splash, tours and signup page ...

How much would it cost me to change all the pics to sets that i actually have license for?

Just wondering if its worth it for me to buy the sets, or just pay someone to change these.

since there isn't really much there to begin with.... if I was gonna do it, I'd ask you for your sets (licensed of course) and charge you probly $200 for the whole tour, and you'd get a much better tour than you got right now.

I paid $50 for the shit ...

and im left with 4 options:

1) pay few bills to have pics licensed.

2) pay few bills to have it legalized with new pics

3) trash the whole fucking thing and call it a $50 loss

4) wait for the hubby to come home who will prolly offer me more money just to return it to him intact

The site blows colon. Buy licensed content, hire a professional designer, get it set up properly, (programmers and whatnot)... find someone that knows marketing (yes, really), gather your promo tools and strategy, and launch from that base.

anything short of that is equivalent to crossing your fingers and hoping Dr. Phil gives you good advice.

Well amp, honestly if i was going to jump into a paysite i would go in prepared with a budget.

I grabbed this because of the price, $50 is not much to lose for all that was offered, even if it was a chance it was too good to be true.

Bottom line, if i cant make this work for little more than pennies more than i already have into it, its going in the can.

If im going to start a site and dump money into it, I will begin production from start, and do it right ... not pick up where someone left off.

I know this is a bit off topic, but any designer who does not give you the .PSD files when he gives you his final work, is playing fucking games with you.

The .psd files are part of what you are buying, that way if you need a change or a font or even a correction you can do it without having to pay someone for it.

I got ripped hard by a designer this way, not naming names but amp knows him and has had problems with him as well

Refused to give the .psd files, the delivery was shitty although in his defense his graphics where ok, just not worth what was paid..

i dont have any photoshop files that came with this ... and i never used a .png

i just assumed they used a different program to design it.

okay, fair enough.... I can relate to your perspective. BUT.... you can't honestly expect to make any kind of highly profitable site from some shitty $50 buck investment.... fuck, I used to pay more than that for my domains alone.

If you got some traffic in that deal, then great.... otherwise, you got jacked. My recomendation would be to scrap it and start fresh with a realistic approach.

.png is a compressed image similar to jpg
it is supposed to be lossless in nature

a .psd file is a layer exposed file, the reason its so important is the graphic at one time was a series of layers, to remove a graphic would would just have to replace the layer.

I do believe .psd is photoshop centric...

Not necessarily true.... I never used to give out my source files. That is NOT (contrary to popular opinion) what the customer is buying. The customer is buying the site. Not the source files. If you buy a thumbnailer program, you're buying the program... not the source code that makes it up.

I have very mixed feelings on this still.... but for me, it's moot at this stage because I no longer contract.

Point is: There's no definitive right or wrong regarding source file provision. It comes down to designer discretion.

yes fireworks is png native, but unless is was not exported it is no longer source, as a matter of fact trying to display a source png will crash browsers...

if you want give me a download link for the .png file and ill tell you if the layers are exposed.

I think that if the customer ask's then it should be factored into the price?

but in my case... I usually told them flat out, no source files. Only in the last 6 months was I ever truly pressured to give them up. And I did... without extra charge. (for specific clients only)

But I'm hesitant to even say that, and I don't recommend that for any designer. If a client wants source files... CHARGE THEM FOR IT. That's my recommendation. Don't do as I did... do as I say... (kinda thing) or don't give them up.

as far as I know, only IE is displaying them to date.

AMP: I know in the older version of fireworks that the file sizes for .png (non web export) where fairly large and browsers would freak out. I do have MX but I dont use fireworks much. I know just enough design to be dangerious.
