i haven't seen the new dvd, but i've heard it, downloaded the audio rips off the news groups, fucking great stuff, lots of improvising and different lyrics and such. almost 5 hours long too. the 3 disc cd is amazing too. probably the best live cd they've put out.

The one thing you should know is the DVD is NOT a true representation of a single live performance. The bootlegs from the same show demonstrate how sloppy Jimmy plays, and how horse Plant was. Zep was at best a very inconsistent live act.

The new DVD is a miracle of Pro Tools and studio magic. Page and the other producers mixed a bunch of other performances (both audio and visual) to come up with a perfect blend. There are bits and pieces in the DVD from all over the archives. That's why is took so long to release.

While a technological feat, the DVD should be viewed as how Led Zeppelin WANTED to sound live, but never did.

That is true. Zeps live performances were not their strongpoint, probably because of Pages heroin use, Plant constantly playing with his hair and their overall introvertedness. But in the studio Page was a musical genius and the chemistry between them rivals the Beatles. They have never put out a bad album, unlike the Stones who's last decent album was Some Girls 25 years ago.

no that fair, Stones had many decent works

Voodoo Lounge was a top album of 90's and in terms of sales it was in top posts in US and UK charts for long period of time with no promo work. That was a big achievement, probably one of their largest ones. Stones didn't sell due to their name. They sold their work. After 40 decades rocking, media have stooped supporting you long time ago. Even the last punk on earth with a guitar will have more exposure from MTV than Stones.

Stones did manage to adapt in every decade. Which other group did the same? We are talking for 4 whole decades here! The sound of the rest bands comes from the past, this doesn't happen with Stones.

aerosmith or close, but i personally like the stones better, mosly their earlier stuff though

in Good Times Bad Times by Zepplin, the bass pedal work in the beginning and end of that song is amazing, when you consider that Bonham used a single bass pedal

My wife was kind enough to leave behind some zeppelin cds in my car the other day, so I listened to them. Did notta for me.

Here's an odd fact..... I read in Playboy the other day that Bing Crosby has sole more albums than both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

http://www.didyouknow.cd/fastfacts/music.htm

The Beatles holds the top spot of album sales in the US (106 million), followed by Garth Brooks second (92 million), Led Zeppelin (83 million), Elvis Presley (77 million), and the Eagles (65 million). Worldwide The Beatles sold more than 1 billion records.

You make it sound as though the "in" look now is any better.

Besides, anyone who dresses according to trends dictated by corporations and the media need to be shot in the head.
