i need a new computer, but i have no cc.

i'm 19, and i've only just started to make some half decent money with design and im getting steady work now...

i dont have it all up front (looking to spend $3500), so i'd like to pay it in payments like $120 a month or whatever...

but i dont have any proof of credit since i'm all freelance and shit, so how would i go about actually getting financed or whatever to be able to pay payments.. do i *need* a CC to do this? i called dell and asked them if i could pay payments w/ a debit card and they said no, have to pay within 3 days... i also tried signing up for their preferred finance shit, and got denied.

my parents wont let me use their shit cause their credit is already bad, so they wont do as a cosign...

any ideas? i need one very quick, this thing is really fuckin up and goin down the shitter.

You can have one for like $1k. Just use your old keyboard, mouse monitor etc... why buy the whole set? When you have more money buy the missing parts.

heh, no... i have no problem making money... i'll prolly have $3500 within a month n' a half or so, im a designer...

but i dont wanna wait..

and i don't want to build my own computer, not enough time to deal w/ that shit. i spent $3200 on this computer and its lasted me this long, might as well go all out on another one.

i really dont give a shit about how expensive it is.. i dont care...

its just that people have told me i prolly wouldn't get approved with a CC, so i'm screwed in a way.

You don't need a fancy-assed killer system to design galleries. I'm still using a p3-600 for a lot of my work. I'm typing this on it now. Its three years old and I like it... I'm used to it... its my friend...

You can get a comparable machine for a few hundred bucks (without the 21" monitor and dvd burner). Good enough to make galleries and free or avs sites. If you want to play games, ask your parents for a loan. Get a cheap machine and start working.

heh, no, i dont design galleries.. i'm into a lot of the higher end 3d programs like Maya n' 3dsmax, but its virtually impossible to use those on this thing... but i design a lot in flash, and full mainstream sites, and adult sites...

i'm also a gamer on the side so i can't buy a piece of shit. ;)

i wont bow down and waste $500 on some piece of shit, i want a good computer, im gonna get it. just need to figure out how to get around this small bump first.

do0d i got my emachine for like 750 dollars. it's a amd 2200 with 512 meg or ram 100gb hd lan card cd-rw dvd and all that good shit. the only thing that didn't cover was the monitor. and how the fuck are you designing on a 4 year old computer? that's gotta be like a 200 mhz pentium.

i got it approximately around 1999... its a p3 500 mhz, 128mbram, 21 gig hd (and i have about 50 megs left). i can design on it, but its real slow and lags a lot, and decides to shut off for no reason spontaneously, and its happening more often.

for the programs i want to use, its a necessity that i have 3ghz, 1 gigaram, radeon 9800, good sound card, etc etc.

Well then, if you have no credit, do you have money in the bank? Savings, loans, T-Bills? I'm not sure where you're from, but recently I needed money to start a site and - not being one to keep much cash on hand - I got a loan against a GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) I'd previously bought.

If you have the collateral, the bank will give you a loan against the money. Its just a matter of paying back what you spend and a minimal interest charge.

Ok, I'm getting on the bad side of drunk and will stop giving advice now

Don't be greedy. Make the money first. If the computer's lasted this long, it'll last a month longer. You said you'd have the cash in a month.

If you don't want to be in the same situation that your parents are currently in then don't start spending money that you don't even have yet.

Buy what you can afford to buy now.

Be patient, i know thats hard when your young and your getting your first taste of real money, but trust me, you don't want to start living beyond your means, thats a bad habit and a very hard one to break.

You say that you are just now getting bigger projects, but it sounds like you haven't been paid for them yet, i'm sure you know the old saying "don't count your chickens before they hatch"

honestly, you really don't need that for designing, and you definitely don't for games. a friend of mine is a 3d designer and he uses like a 2.2ghz dell laptop for all his work, including really high-end 3d rendering.

my 2400 w/ 512mb ram and radeon 9700/128mb plays the newest games without a hitch. ut2k3 turned all the way up doesn't slow it down a second, and with the 8mb cache drives, levels load just like the original ut did on my old box.

i paid about 750$ for that, minus the monitor and soundcard and stuff. and you can get a pretty nice live card (or audigy) for like $100. i also bought a lian-li with that money. granted, i have an expensive monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, and soundcard, but i doubt you need 450w klipsch speakers to make a nice website. i rarely use my plat sb, except for the headphone jack, and a dvd burner would be nice, but not necessary. i also have over 300gb of hdd space in this box, and most of that came with the price i paid.

i can run and use flash mx, fireworks, photoshop, golive, gaim, winamp, outlook and more on my box, using them all at once, and it doesn't hiccup at all. i also have a killer freaking mb that is about twice the price what you'd need.

get yourself a biostar, 1gb ram, 64mb+ vid, athlon 2400 and you're set. it'll play all your games, too.

100-120 a month, sure it's not a lot of money to pay. If you are able to secure a loan for for 3500. it will take you about 2+ years to pay it off with $120. payments and thats not even taking into account intrest, chances are you are not going to get a good APR so every month you have that added on to your ballence, by the time you pay it off, you will have probably paid double the price of the computer. Even if you pay the loan off early say in two months, and you some how managed to get a great APR you will likely have paid an extra $600-$700. And if your not careful about the type of loan you get you can also be hit with some heafty penalties for paying it off early.

your really better off just waiting til the end of the month and paying for it all at once.

i understand the toys, bought plenty of them myself, but it's a question of need vs. want

i doubt i'll be upgrading for doom3, or what sounds like might even be better still, the new half-life. i'm sure my machine will run it just fine, considering how well it runs games like ut2k3 and splinter cell...

besides, $3500 for a desktop? i put together an extreme system, with like .5 terabytes of raid built in, and it still was only like $2500

are you kidding me?!?! hell no :P you better bet ID software will make doom3 dominate FPS for quite awhile just like they did with the first Doom.

I have a Dell P3-600 (it had 128MB RAM and 30GB HD, I upgraded it to 376MB and got a 2nd 80GB HD a few months ago) I bought 3 years ago and it is running sweet. I plan to buy a new computer just in 2 years.

I dont use it to play, maybe just some simple games like emulators and games from the 90s (love them).

I wouldnt buy a computer in payments, just if it blowed up and I had no other computer to work with.

financing it means that you are paying WAY more than a cash buy there.

Just wait the month and save the loot up man. Also, you can get great stuff from ebay as well or wait til someone here on the boards needs some loot.

One of my crew bought a digital camera from here and got a really nice camera few bucks lower than you can get the same machine in any store and it works great.

Check out http://www.newegg.com. I know several people that have built their own PCs with parts from there and nobody has spent more than $2000 even for the most kickass systems (minus a monitor).

but i dont have any proof of credit since i'm all freelance and shit, so how would i go about actually getting financed or whatever to be able to pay payments.. do i *need* a CC to do this? i called dell and asked them if i could pay payments w/ a debit card and they said no, have to pay within 3 days... i also tried signing up for their preferred finance shit, and got denied.

my parents wont let me use their shit cause their credit is already bad, so they wont do as a cosign...

any ideas? i need one very quick, this thing is really fuckin up and goin down the shitter.
Make Cash With your sites.. And if you 19 get a CC its N.P

hehe.

For some reason that made me laugh considering you don't have the money to buy what you want.

Dude, it's playing-up because you've run out of disk space. Delete a couple of gigs or buy a second HD, then get busy working so you can save enough money to buy your fancy new box! You said you'd have enough money in a month and a half
