more n more sites ask for email and a login/pw first and then lets you choose a subscr option like cc, check or 1-900.

Do you think this generates more signups because it has the "psych" effect that ppl are actually almost in the members dir or its just for getting email adresses ?

Its just for getting the email address, and the other purpose is it exports that data to the cc join form, less for the surfer to fill out.
