Do you see Warren Buffet telling people to 'fuck off' if he's asked advice? No. I could easily go knock on his door tomorrow if I was some ambitious stockholder and ask him questions if I wanted to.
I don't know when you last checked into reality, but this is a completely inane post. No one is able to knock on warren buffet's door and say "What's up? I just wanna ask a few questions." He is a billionaire with tight security at all his homes. Stupid fuck or wishful thinker.

Also, the internet is only in something like 50-60% of American homes. Once that hits 100% it is time to start working Europe or South America.

Heh, want me to post pics of his home? I used to drive by it on a daily basis. He lives in a tight community & needs no security. The only thing seperating his house from the average joe is a wooden cattle fence and a stretch of highway.

I would post pics if I was that dedicated to making my point, but I think it's been made.

"keep it real"? *shudder*.

wimpy 06-02-2003 07:06 AM

it's the newbs, for sure.

If more people understood that I'd make a gallery. Yeah, ONE gallery. I don't want to entertain the experienced free porn surfer who's already seen my gallery, I'm only interested in the newb who has never seen my gallery before. Less wasted bandwidth, same sales.

The trouble is gallery owners don't think that way unless you're paying them money. That makes sense, really, because it's the large quantity of fresh content that inspires people to make links and tell their friends, and that's how the newbs find the Hun.

You don't know anything about Warren Buffet. I think the man takes 100k a year as his salary and he lives in a house he bought for 30k.

As for the rest of this thread, I'm staying the fuck out.

What is done to keep surfers interested, if they've turned a site down before, or were members once before, and want something new?

If it's true that overexposed sites sell badly as time goes by, how is it justifiable to keep them prominent on high-traffic sites?

From a paysite perspective, we change our tour, freshen it up on a regular basis for returning surfers with new models that we know appeal to a large audience. We add teaser pics that change regularly and people bookmark the page. I don't believe that the over-exposed idea comes into play at all as long as it's a quality site that updates regularly and adds new stuff to keep the potential member interested. I've seen many pay sites over the years that literally keep the same tour or just re-arrange the same old models inside a new tour - if a previous member comes back and sees the same old crap on a tour, what incentive do they have to sign up again? Our oldest site - been around for 4 years now - still converts as well as it did when we first launched it. Many of the top spots these days on TGPs are given to free hosted galleries because the owner can depend on those galleries being high quality and they don't have to go back again and again to check them to make sure they aren't being screwed. Also, if a company is buying a spot on a high traffic site, they're doing it for a reason, it's converting well for them, they're trying to create a real brand for themselves, they're also attracting potential webmasters who may promote them in the future. There are a ton of potential members who may visit that high traffic site and may not decide to click the purchased link the first time, or the hundreth time..but they might the 101st time. It's exposure...that's what advertising is all about.

the best secret I can tell you is the power of observation. Observe what others are doing, what sites they are marketing on, what they are doing with their designs...This information is incredibly valuable learning experience. Just observe everything. Look at what banners rotate at the top of GFY, ask yourself why they are doing it, how, they are doing it. Try to build a mental picture in your mind of how the business works. In other words, don't look at the business passively but actively and always ask, "WHY are they doing that?"
