need $50k
you ever 'find' a domain name and, what appears like instantly, you know that's the one? you just have to have it and there's no way in hell you'd settle for less... love at first sight?
I can think of the 3rd time this is happening to me. the slight issue this time is that it costs $50k (neg. down from $70k), and I do not have the money rn. payment is expected within one week, and I am considering my options. I definitely want the name, and I will be able to afford it within 3 to 6 months, but I'm wary of appearing unprofessional to the seller. what would you do? shall I post the name and the project it's for? PS. if anyone wants to purchase it now then sell it to me in a few months with a $5k markup, that's cool |

Is a domain even worth that much? Just add an extra number, letter, or hyphen and get it for 0.01 and if it is successful you can buy the .com later

if you dont have the money then why consider. just because you feel the domain is worth that much I havent heard you mention you went through a broker to check. posting it is silly since anyone could grab it - so be creative and find something else - if you cant start up a company with your own then dont get behind an eight ball at the beginning

There are not that many buyers for domains at that price point. Seller will likely accommodate you.
If you have a killer business plan, you can also probably get regular financing. If you do not have a killer business plan, probably should not get the domain.

Every single project I have bought a "premium" domain for failed.
All of my biggest projects which have made me the most money over the last 20 years were free registrations. Trying to borrow $50k for the domain for a new project is basically ensuring it won't work. |

this...
and as many have said, if you can´t afford at this moment, it´s probably a life line. Whether you think it could make money, maybe it all goes tits up! And besides, someone buys it, and then it all goes tits up for you, you´d be looking real shit when you can´t buy it to save the buyer. Wishing you luck Farang

No one is willing to buy a domain for 50k for a 5k return in a few months either, what if you can't find the money? They are stuck with a 50k domain Just my two cenrs

Start with a cheap TLD of the same name and eventually buy the $50k TLD once you've made some money to justify the purchase.
A very popular online business Neo-bank in Europe, Qonto, started as .eu and rebranded into .com later. |

Unless it is a one word domain and has type-in traffic, its not worth it.

You don't need a 50K domain if you need to borrow for the name.
Put that 50K into marketing.

If your idea for a website is that good, then wouldn't it work with a similar domain?

well, i did consider posting the whole project pivot plan (that name ties it all together perfectly) here on the off chance the right person would stumble upon this thread at the right time and maybe we could do business. but what are the odds considering today’s state of this community? the plan is awesome, it’ll work, and $50k is peanuts compared to potential profits.
it’s not 100% “white hat” but not something that could land anyone in prison though. still im sure i’d get shit from some on here, but am not too bothered. im going to discuss this with someone in private first, then decide. PS. i do need a business partner though, not necessarily for investment. someone with managerial experience would be great, well connected within the industry would be a plus. thanks gfy!

About 10 months ago, you had what you genuinely believed was an outstanding product with significant profit potential. The only real obstacle was billing integration and the relatively small amount needed to cover the initial setup costs. In fact, many acquiring banks would have deducted their fees from future settlements anyway, but that’s beside the point. What mattered was that the project had real potential, and the barrier to entry was approximately $1,500. Fast forward to today: the project has been abandoned. At the same time, you found the money to buy a BMW, but not the $1,500 needed to give the business a chance to succeed. Now we’re having a similar conversation about another product with enormous potential. This time, the bottleneck is a $50,000 domain name. Without it, the project can’t move forward. From an investor’s perspective, the logical sequence would have been different: invest the $1,500 into Project #1, make it profitable, use those profits to buy the BMW, and eventually generate enough capital to acquire the $50,000 domain needed for Project #2. Instead, the pattern seems to be prioritizing consumption over investment. On top of that, there always seems to be some legal, police, or personal issue disrupting progress every few months. Whether fair or unfair, that creates additional concerns about focus, stability, and execution. The fundamental question is this: If you’re not willing to invest in your own projects, why should anyone else invest in them? |

☝️I was going to say exactly that, but in a slightly more ghetto way with some rage bait sprinkled in for gfy's sake.
I'll spare you the shitshow since Wtify was so elegant with it.
