    Beef Wellington

Anyone here a particular fan of a beef wellington?

Recently had a fancy family dinner where we had a beef wellington with a spread of mustards and jellies and pickles and cheeses

Damn now I want to eat beef wellington every day but I have a dollar store mac n' cheese budget

Beef tenderloin should be eaten either raw (steak tartare) or slightly (of the slightest) cooked (beef tataki).

I’m not poor. I’ve never had a fancy steak in life yet. Just never got around to it.

Might have to check that off my bucket list tonight.

Get your shit together and find a good 20oz ribeye with some beautiful marbling, then cook that sweet baby jesus in red meat form to a delightful medium rare, use the muscle between your thumb and index finger in this position 👌 and the closer to the wrist you get the feel is how your meat should feel to be done. Then you sautee up some mushrooms and onions to put on top.

Don't rest it, that's what people who suck at timing their meal cooking say you must do. There's no evidence that supports it, you just eat cold meat.

        Enjoy my friend.

. . . my guess is that Gordon Ramsay made that humble meat pie trendy.

Oh man if I were rich we'd have another beer summit in 2026 where the bruthas can try this:

When you have a meal this damn tasty, that's when how poor I am sinks in because this is the type of food that you can have regularly when you're rich, and having a beef wellington with other stuff and your family and some booze, it's an experience... a feast!

Too fancy for me at the moment

Eat that raw in the USA and die from E. coli.

Hmmm.... isn't E. coli really, really rare to get?

Still remember what happened to Jack-in-the-box when they literally started filling coffins with their customers...

Bars in Vancouver used to advertise "medium rare" burgers and people loved buying them, even though I was taught growing up that mince meeat has to be cooked all the way through because unlike steak, it's dangerous for E. coli... but that's just what I learned growing up.

Once I was in my early 20s and dating an asian chick who would eat half-raw fried chicken and she thought I was crazy for not wanting to eat uncooked chicken and broke up with me on the spot basically when I refused to eat her cooking.

No, E. coli is not rare; but cooking the food correctly and safe handling prevents problems.

You can eat medium rare burgers or chicken if the core temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Be glad you don't date that female anymore. No reason for her to make you eat that shit.
Storming out on you over it was the tip of her iceberg of arrogance. You would have been miserable living with her.

In the case of the steak tartare you, or a chef, sanitarily chop/mince the meat with a knife . . . grounded beef on a larger scale indeed is a health hazard if eaten raw.

At least over here steak tatar and ground beef are two very different things

Steak tatar is quality meat that is being freshly prepared. Ground meat in general is more like industrial production and never eaten raw.

In Germany also raw pork is common - and no, you don't get sick from it.

Any butcher worth their salt will mince the piece of meat you need. I go for grounded roast beef/chuck for bolognese or burgers.

It could be perfectly fine; but my mind would convince me that I'm going to die.

E-coli comes from cow shit. So if the cow is slaughtered and the shit sprays and then is mixed in, like ground beef, you are at risk. But steak doesn't have it inside the meat.
