I have always been against Age Verification, for several reasons.

1. If you get broadband or a mobile contract, presumably you must be 18 to sign the credit agreement, and so you are already age verified and you should be the one responsible for who uses the broadband.

2. Having age verification on pay porn sites seems nonsense as you cannot access the porn unless you pay. At most the free tour could be safe content, but that is as far as it should go. As if you pay using a credit card, presumably you are 18 to have a credit card.

3. Thousands if not millions of free porn sites such as blogs and tubes will ignore the age verification.

4. It just encourages people to pirate porn.

5. It gives a lot of opportunities to criminals.

6. It is a tool by governments to bring in censorship of the internet slowly.

But the rules Ofcom (the people in charge of age verification in the UK), seem to be things people can probably get around.

I would presume a cheap rubber mask could e used to age verify a persons face.

It's too easy to use AV now to keep crying about it.
See go.cam and get over it.

Once a surfer is verified on one site using go.cam, they are automatically verified on
all sites using it (at least it appears so).
So the faster we use it on our sites, the less time for pirates to get popular.

In the UK you MUST be 18 years of age to take out a phone contract, that includes a sim plan, pay-as-you-go or a pay-monthly cell phone plan.

If anyone under the age of 18 has one, then the mobile provider who gave them it broke the law in order to do so.

The same is true with credit cards, in order to have a credit card, the person MUST be over the age of 18 unless they've been added to a parents account as an authorized user.

The UK does seem to have all the required systems in place to actually have a working, age verification solution, including the gov.uk login credentials in order to verify an individuals age, without exposing images, additional identification steps, etc.

The problem is, the government cant be seen as to be making online porn a legitimate business, its not good for votes.

Even if the rules are messy, sites still need a plan because payment processors and traffic partners may care before regulators do. I would measure geo dropoff and keep the AV flow as short as possible.

Age verification has not impacted as much as people say it has. There are a few good things about this. Admittedly I though the system was going to be more like 2FA, which would mean that “I never sign up for this” would be a thing of the past.

The argument on this, is a broken recorded. Comply or die, it very simple.

It has reduce the above, because people are under the believe we have a mug shot of them at the time they first access the site. As too cell phone and credit cards, sure the person with the contract must be 18 years or over, but the user at the time of sign up, can be a completely different age. I am sure we all had that same smart arse they said this to us when complaining about it to us directly on email but never have a reply when we suggested they could have stolen the card.

Your loyal customer, the one you should focus of, will sign up and pay, those that you pirate sign, have possibly always used pirate sites.

Consider that most of those big brands on never listed on those sites, that the are industry supported advertisements on this site and a lot of the content listed are from site that charge $30 at the door and then another $30 inside just to allow the member to download. $60 might be too high to pay for a moving and therefore they will risk a pirate site, if there is just one moving they like.

No, the subject of Go.Cam, I emailed the several time, after 4 weeks I managed to get a reply via GitHub, so when support is that slow, difficult and bad, you want to trust those guys are you digital doormen. shame is did look good and simple to use, but I don’t think they are the staff numbers and the attitude in France to work is always a little meh, oui, peut-être, it is just French culture.

It will be interesting to see the new "pay by bank" method unroll for the EU as they want to boycott Visa and MasterCard, but that could also be use for greater censorship

The true problem isn't the billionaire surveillance industry and the government. It's the people who comply with this rubbish. Covid is an example of how this works. If enough people complied with the health pass we would forever be having our temperature taken and our vaccine cards inspected each time we pumped gas or go grocery shopping.

And it doesn't have to be a majority of people who comply. A solid 15% to 20% and law enforcement wins the right to beat the remaining +80% into submission.
