    Never use Fox car rental

Like ever! I am now safely here in the very nice Hertz lounge area. I’m ok don’t worry.
This is an important business thread. Never be tempted by the sly Fox rental rates. The counter is backed up and the company is dysfunctional to the extreme.

one of my first jobs was outside rep for a major (maybe 5th or so ranked) car rental firm.

we were told in orientation, if you have a problem with aggressive upselling LEAVE NOW.

great easy gig. did for years. most problems solved with a sorry and a tshirt.

    so on behalf of fox.

A couple years ago I did a few private driving gigs, and one of them, I drove around a family of investors looking to buy property.

When I dropped the vehicle off, the only mess was a single melted ice cream cone that melted into one of the leather seats in the back. Maybe some sand and dirt in the footwells, and the vehicle was covered in road dust and totally brown. That's it. Just needed a car wash and some light cleaning, but I was told specifically not to work extra hours and to stick with the pay I was getting.

A certain Canadian rental company claimed $1400 in cleaning damages!

        $1400!

Everything is a scam these days.

Fox exists because people sort by price. Pretty sure everyone that has ever rented once from Fox has a "never again" story to tell

Basically the Spirit Airlines of car rental.

I've rented from Fox and other "off brand" rental agencies before. If it's a only a few dollars to be saved, I will always choose the Hertz, Alamo, National, Budget, Avis, Sixt, etc.

Unfortunately I've had to rent a car for a week plus, during times that the brand was $120 +/- daily vs $30 +/- day with Fox. I chose Fox, and every action I took, was based on the expectation that they will try to "f**k" me over at some point.

I screenshot and printed transaction details of the rental, including their own rules, even those location specific. I videotaped and photographed the exterior and interior before driving away, including the odometer and fuel tank gauge.

Before the return, if and when necessary, I take the vehicle to a car wash to lightly vacuum and rinse the vehicle (some locations require it to be returned clean), top off the fuel, make sure I have the receipts.

Upon return, I immediately offer up the receipts, and require them to close out the rental and issue their receipt. Effectively I have never given them the opportunity to "try" to roll me for extra money. Meanwhile as I am checking out, I literally am witnessing others getting screwed.

Rented with Hertz today and got a free upgrade to a 2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Love it! Everyone should try one of these.
