You'll need a bigger sin than that if you want to win! Why not create a pornsite starring SoBeCat and JoeSixPack (dead or alive)? It would be a chance to kill two birds with one stone -- win the award AND get reinstated at Oprano :winkwink:

SoBeGirl Video 06-03-2003 08:54 PM

who wants to buy rolexgirl.com from me? You will need a good lawyer though once you take it.

Sobe go spam somewhere else! :winkwink:

SoBeGirl Video 06-03-2003 09:02 PM

It is not a spam. I am serious. I don't want it. It is not worth the trouble it is giving me.

And how is the sale of this domain relevant to the topic of this thread, other than to prove you are a spammer? :1orglaugh

I can hardly believe that sasush wasn't mentioned. Hitbotting and stealing galleries repeatedly, and not seeming to be at all ashamed whenever he got caught, it was actually pretty funny :)

I'm not famliar with sasush, have you got a link to his confession?

Which one? There are many. Usually along the lines of "So what? Everyone does it"
*grin*
Actually I just did a search, and discovered that he's been banned, so that probably disqualifies him :)

Groove 06-03-2003 10:26 PM

OK, my shortlist so far is:

  • lil2rich4u2 - for his shameless thieving.
  • Serge - for attempting to murder JoeSixpack.
  • SoBeGirl - for reneging on agreements and spamming.
  • SonOfRage - for being an unrepentant rapist.

Does anyone have any better candidates?

If so, please state who they should replace and WHY?

Personally I'm a bit iffy on Serge because there
are some who'd argue that SixPack's death would
be a good thing. But would it be ethical? :winkwink:

Kimmykim 06-03-2003 10:30 PM

This is beyond stupid.

Serge should be on a list but not with those idiots.

He nominated himself, LOL :1orglaugh

But I am open to suggestions for a replacement nominee.

Surely you have a suggestion or two KK? :Graucho

Kimmykim 06-03-2003 10:37 PM

You don't have a clear definition of ethics versus morals I hate to say, so you're nominations are not right.

Hell a serial killer can have great ethics.

More often than not, the terms "ethics" and "morals" can be used synonymously. For example look at this dictionary definition:

Quote:

eth?ics

Pronunciation: (eth'iks), [key]
?n.pl.
1. (used with a sing. or pl. v.) a system of moral principles: the ethics of a culture.
2. the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.: medical ethics; Christian ethics.
3. moral principles, as of an individual: His ethics forbade betrayal of a confidence.
4. (usually used with a sing. v.) that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. Cf. axiological ethics, deontological ethics.
I agree that I haven't defined what system of ethical/moral principles should govern the Sobe Awards, but it would be impossible to do so succinctly. And besides, I would hate to see any truly worthy candidates slip through the cracks on the basis of a semantic technicality. I did however provide some examples of unethical people, "thieves, rapists, spammers and con-artists". All of the short-listed nominees appear to fit one or more of these categories :Graucho

Absolutely. I don't think that morals and ethics are at all interchangeable, not from the strict definition of either.

Morals are what you think OF things, ethics are the way you going about DOING things.

For instance, you are an attorney -- a defense attorney to be specific.

You are selected by your office to defend someone who bombed an abortion clinic allegedly.

You don't believe in abortion and you think the guy is guilty.

This is morals.

You go before the jury etc and you present them with reasonable doubt, your client is gets a not guilty verdict because you've done the best job you could for your client.

This is ethics.

Then why does the very first definition in the dictionary say:

Quote:

a system of moral principles
Is the dictionary wrong?

Sorry KK, I think your example is really bad here, and I was really expecting you to come up with a convincing counter-point. I mean, there are so many other factors involved in your scenario.

An attorney, especially a defense attorney, has to put aside moral values and ethics before even getting into the profession. There are legal and professional considerations they need to worry about when being a defense attorney, and if you are going to let things like guilt get in the way of providing the best defense, then you should become a prosecuting attorney instead.

Someone that does not like blood does not enter employment as an emergency room nurse.

You're just equivocating morals and ethics all over again. The Lawyer has morals, but the "legal and professional considerations" as you put it are his professional ethics.

Groove 06-04-2003 12:39 AM

WOW! Goldman's definitely a contender :thumbsup

My revised short list is:

  • lil2rich4u2 - for his shameless thieving.
  • SoBeGirl - for reneging on agreements and spamming.
  • SonOfRage - for being an unrepentant rapist.
  • Steve Goldman - for being a major scammer.

Other nominations are still welcome :glugglug

well, the pattern is he scams, he gets caught, he retires forever, he returns under a different alias.

hard to say what stage he may be in right now. if he is not here now, he will be back.

Are ethics responsibilities? A lawyer has legal and professional duties, ethics be damned
